Histopathology Technician - Max Lab - Moradabad

I. Job Title : Scientific Officer-Pathology (Histopathology)

II. Reporting Supervisor : Consultant Pathology

III. JOB PURPOSE :

To test samples received for pathology examination and report results accurately so the clinician can make the right assessment/ diagnosis for effective patient care.

IV. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Responsibilities

Specimen Processing:

• Receive, label, and document tissue samples.
• Fix and process specimens using formalin, alcohol, or other reagents.
• Prepare slides for microscopic analysis by embedding, sectioning, and staining tissues

Microtomy and Slide Preparation:

• Use a microtome or cryostat to cut thin tissue sections for slide preparation.
• Perform various types of stains (Haematoxylin and Eosin, special stains, immunohistochemistry) to enhance tissue visualization.

Quality Control and Assurance:

• Ensure proper handling, labelling, and storage of all samples to maintain sample integrity.
• Conduct quality control checks on slides, reagents, and equipment.
• Review slides for any imperfections or technical issues and correct them as needed.

Equipment Maintenance:

• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments like embedding centres, microtomes, cryostats, and automated slide strainers.
• Regularly calibrate equipment and troubleshoot any technical issues.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with pathologists, histotechnologists, and other laboratory staff to ensure timely processing of specimens.
• Maintain clear and accurate records of tissue samples, laboratory procedures, and outcomes.

Safety and Compliance:

• Adhere to laboratory safety protocols, including proper handling of chemicals and biohazardous materials.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory standards, accreditation requirements, and health regulations.

Administrative Duties:

• Maintain accurate documentation of all procedures performed and specimens processed.
• Assist with inventory management for histopathology reagents and supplies.

Autopsy Assistance:

• Assist in autopsy procedures by preparing tissue samples for examination

Measurable Deliverables

Patient/ Customer Care

• Accuracy in results & reports-No Cases of inaccurate reporting.

Process/ Documentation.

• Knowledgeable about various Q.A programs in laboratory and is able to effectively implement them.
• Optimal utilization of equipment and material resources.
• Non -conformance of SOPS

Revenues/ Costs

• Minimize Downtime of all equipments in the Lab

People

• Training persons days completed

V. JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in, Medical Laboratory
• Diploma or more in Medical Lab technology

Experience

• Preferably with 1-3 years experience as a fully qualified Pathology Lab Technician.
• 2 years experience in a high-volume laboratory.

Technical Skills

• Substantial exposure in automation.
• Well versed in specialties of clinical pathology.
• Computer knowledge
• Familiarity with regulations and sample processing.

Behavioural Skills

• High level of communication and coordination.
• The role required to do shift duties including night shifts and emergency duties on call as per monthly planned roaster

Language Skills

• English
