Clinical Associate in General Medicine

Role & responsibilities :

Cover Hospital rounds, free OPDs, Private OPDs, Operating Room timings, on call Duties, Administrative commitments and academic activities.

Sr Residents must take professional round of all the wards and areas, where patients of the units to which they are attached are admitted for the arrival of the Consultant. He/she should examine patients under him /her charge and inspect medical records with a view to ensure that history has been properly recorded, progress notes entered and treatment prescribed carried out. He/she will also listen to patients, his or her attendants complaints and bring all such complaints which he is not able to redress, to the notice of the Consultant/Administration, as the case may be.

After the patient is discharged, it is squarely the responsibility of the Sr Residents to scrutinize that the case documentation is complete in every respect. Sr Residents must write brief summary sent to the Medical Record Section.

While going off duty, he/she will brief his/her successor about the patients in his/her charge, especially those who are critically ill, serious operated cases and cases having medico legal angle. It will be desirable that he maintains a book for this purpose.

Prompt attention should be given to cases arriving in the Casualty.

The Sr Residents will be directly responsible for supervision of patient care in his/her unit with the assistance of Consultants.

On admission days he/she will attend to cases referred for medical opinion from other Wards. If necessary, he/she may consult the Physician/Surgeon in charge for further advice.
In cases of death, it will be his/her responsibility to verify that case documentation is complete and write a brief summary of the case before it is sent to the Medical Records Section.

He/she will maintain a book/register to indicate the patients in his charge who require care/follow up during the routine night rounds and will apprise the duty house staff of such cases.

He/she will maintain a register to indicate that the relatives of seriously ill patients are informed through the central registration office of the Hospital. This is also applicable to cases of patients absconding from the ward and also in the case of death/emergency.
