HOD Math

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Management:

• Provide leadership and direction to the Mathematics department, ensuring alignment with the schools vision, mission, and goals.
• Manage and support Mathematics teachers, including mentoring, professional development, and performance evaluations.
• Organize and lead departmental meetings to discuss curriculum, teaching strategies, and student progress.
• Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the department.

2. Curriculum Development and Implementation:

• Oversee the development, implementation, and review of the Mathematics curriculum to ensure it meets national and school standards.
• Ensure the curriculum is inclusive, challenging, and caters to the diverse needs of students.
• Stay updated with the latest educational trends, technologies, and best practices in Mathematics education.

3. Teaching and Learning:

• Teach Mathematics classes as required, demonstrating exemplary teaching practices.
• Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department, providing feedback and support to teachers.
• Promote the use of innovative and effective teaching methodologies, including the integration of technology.

4. Student Progress and Achievement:

• Monitor and analyze student performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance achievement.
• Provide guidance and support to students, particularly those who are underperforming or have special educational needs.
• Organize and oversee extracurricular activities, such as Mathematics clubs, competitions, and workshops, to inspire and engage students.

5. Assessment and Reporting:

• Develop and implement assessment policies and procedures in line with school and national standards.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of student progress to parents, school leadership, and relevant stakeholders.
• Coordinate internal and external examinations, including preparation and invigilation.

6. Resource Management:

• Manage the departments budget, ensuring effective allocation and utilization of resources.
• Oversee the procurement and maintenance of teaching materials, equipment, and resources.
• Ensure the departments facilities are well-maintained and conducive to learning.

7. Communication and Collaboration:

• Liaise with other departments, school leadership, and external organizations to promote cross-curricular initiatives and partnerships.
• Communicate effectively with parents, providing regular updates on student progress and departmental activities.
• Represent the Mathematics department at school events, meetings, and professional development forums.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A degree in Mathematics or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
• Mandatory regular B.Ed.
• Minimum of 6 years of teaching experience, with a proven track record of leadership or management in an educational setting.
• In-depth knowledge of the Mathematics curriculum and assessment practices.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in using educational technology and software.
