L2 Network Engineer

Job Summary:

The L2 Network Engineer will provide advanced remote support, manage, troubleshoot, and optimize network infrastructure for global operations. You will be the key escalation point for network-related issues, ensuring network performance and high availability. This requires in-depth technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and experience working in remote environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Remote Network Support & Troubleshooting:
• Resolve network incidents escalated from L1 engineers, including routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls.
• Support WAN, LAN, SD-WAN, wireless networks, and MPLS circuits.
• Perform root cause analysis and document solutions.
• Network Monitoring & Maintenance:
• Use monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG) to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
• Manage firmware upgrades, configuration backups, and patch management.
• Optimize network performance and security.
• Configuration & Implementation:
• Configure and deploy network devices remotely (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless controllers).
• Assist with global network expansion or redesign projects with minimal downtime.
• Manage VLANs, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), and access control policies.
• Security & Compliance:
• Implement and manage firewall policies, VPNs, and IPS/IDS.
• Ensure network security standards and regulatory compliance.
• Perform security checks and recommend improvements.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain network configuration, incident, and resolution documentation.
• Generate detailed performance and security reports.
• Collaboration & Support:
• Work with global IT teams to address connectivity issues.
• Mentor L1 engineers to enhance technical skills.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Technical Expertise:

• Experience with enterprise networking equipment from vendors like SonicWall, Aruba, Cisco.
• Proficiency in TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, VRF, QoS.
• Hands-on experience with firewalls (e.g., SonicWall, Fortinet) and VPN technologies.
• Knowledge of SD-WAN, wireless networking, and network segmentation.
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG).
• Exposure to automation tools (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus.

Educational Qualifications & Certifications:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience:

• 5-7 years of hands-on experience in network engineering, especially supporting global networks remotely.

Work Environment:

• Remote support with working hours aligned to global time zones.
• On-call support may be required for critical issues.
