Legal Specialist - Ecommerce

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Legal Specialist to join our e-commerce team in India. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing company-related regulatory compliance, HR legal issues, and ensuring governance and compliance with shareholders. This role is pivotal in maintaining legal integrity and supporting business growth within the Indian regulatory framework.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Management

• Ensure compliance with all company-related regulations, including FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) guidelines and other statutory requirements.
• Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting the e-commerce industry in India, and advise on necessary adjustments.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities and manage filings, registrations, and licenses.

HR Legal Support

• Address HR-related legal matters, including employee contracts, grievances, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
• Provide legal guidance on labor laws, workplace policies, and employee benefits
• Collaborate with HR to develop and review employment policies to ensure compliance with Indian labor laws.

Governance and Compliance

• Maintain governance and compliance standards in coordination with shareholders and stakeholders.
• Draft, review, and maintain shareholder agreements, board resolutions, and other governance documentation.
• Provide legal advice to management and the board on corporate governance matters and regulatory risks.

Experience in debt recovery and  financial litigation is essential. Which includes the below mentioned:

• Send a formal demand letter to the debtor
• Negotiate repayment plans, partial payments, or discounted settlements if immediate payment is not possible
• File a lawsuit for debt recovery
• Handle disputed debts
• Experience of insolvency proceedings

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelors degree in Law (LLB or equivalent); Masters degree or professional certifications are an advantage.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in corporate legal advisory or compliance roles, preferably in the e-commerce or technology sector.
• Strong knowledge of Indian company law, FDI regulations, and labor law.
• Familiarity with e-commerce-specific regulations, such as data protection and consumer protection laws.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (mandatory) and a regional Indian language (preferred).
