We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Principal Engineer - Trade Lifecycle

Our global technology teams work closely with HSBCs global businesses to design and build services that support our front office (traders and sales) and the team supporting them front to back (Product Control, Finance, Operations, Traded risk notably). We work in agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world.
We are investing heavily across our technology and engineering domains and to accelerate achieving our vision we are seeking an experienced full stack engineering lead to join the Primary Trading System tech team within FICC. This is a global role based in Pune, India with occasional travel required.
About FICC and the PTS tech team
The Primary Trading System team within the Fixed Income Currencies and Commodities department is responsible for designing, building, delivering, and supporting systems for HSBCs trading operations for Fixed Income products. We aim to enable our business to unlock its full potential by optimising booking, trade workflows, straight through processing (STP) and managing the entire trade lifecycle, including in some instances back-office functions.
We manage large and complex systems, some of which are legacy systems with legacy architectures. They are used by thousands of HSBC employees world-wide.
An important part of this role is to help review and define designs for new systems and processes that will succeed these legacy ones. This involves following a high-level plan defined with our architects.

Principal responsibilities: -
The full stack engineering lead is accountable to the global head of engineering standard and will support the overall Technology Strategy. We have a specific focus on engineering in HSBC involving:
- Hands on engineering on major programme delivery
- Providing engineering through leadership across our India engineering community
- Leading SWAT for critical issues or engineering problems
- Driving software development quality as a key leading engineering standards function
- Defining and improve practices.
- Providing oversight of engineering against technical principles and strategy.
The full stack engineer lead is responsible for working across the PTS technology delivery lifecycle including inception, construction, testing, release, and support.
Working closely with our business and other engineers, you will design the engineering platform that will answer their needs in a sustainable, cost effective and secure way while meeting all standards required.
You will be able to propose proof of concepts based on small iterations on reduced scope to show to the users rapid and tangible benefits.
- Provide a technical leadership to the rest of the team.
- Support and/or challenge existing designs.
- Be available across the wide FICC team to give advice on engineering design matters.
- Be the gate keeper for the Future State Architecture defined by the architects.
- Improve our gender diversity by helping to keep our junior women engaged, challenged, developing capabilities, and on technical career paths.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- 10-15 years of experience in developing and implementing software solutions.
- Experience in working in Agile environments.
- Strong leadership skills
- Experience working within a global matrix organization.
- Proven track record with senior stakeholders
- Ability to interact with and advise senior executives.
- Ability to think laterally and innovatively.
- Ability to work within an ambiguous environment, prioritize and reconcile competing demands and resolve complex issues.
- Experience in investment banking, ideally in Fixed Income products.
- Ability to identify and manage risk.
