Director, Legal

This position is responsible for legal affairs in India, supporting the Vice President, Legal, APAC & India in overseeing legal matters. The candidate must be a proven leader capable of supervising a team of four and strategically managing resources to support operations in Herbalifes largest global market. The role involves interacting with all organizational levels, distributors, customers, and vendors and serving as the legal representative on the India Management team.

• Collaborate with departments including General Manager, Finance, Corporate Communications, HR, and Public Affairs to provide practical solutions for mitigating legal risks.
• Identify and resolve legal, public, or regulatory issues, recommending practical solutions and anticipating potential problems before escalation.
• Represent Herbalife India corporate entities in proceedings as needed.
• Lead the India legal department, assist in crisis management, and implement legal training programs to minimize exposure.
• Proactively engage business units to resolve legal issues and support long-term strategic objectives.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. securities, unfair competition, and anti-corruption laws to prevent exposures affecting U.S. corporate functions.
• Manage company secretary functions and provide advisory services on compliance with Indian legal regulations.
• Investigate compliance issues, draft/review legal agreements, and liaise with external counsels and regulatory bodies.
• Support ECO investigations and maintain communication with Associates/Distributors as needed.

The position oversees a team of four members, including two Managers, a Supervisor, and a Senior Officer, as well as law firms externally.

• 17+ years of experience in a large Indian or international law firm and/or corporate legal department, with litigation or regulatory expertise.
• Fluent in English with strong communication skills for effective coordination.
• Membership in any state bar in India is preferred.
• Familiarity with Indian Food, Food Safety, Company, FEMA, and Consumer Protection laws.
• Experience leading teams, managing budgets, training, and personnel hiring.
• Proven ability to independently solve practical problems and perform in a results-driven environment.
• Adaptability to evolving external and organizational environments.
• Willingness to travel regularly across India.

Bachelor of Laws from a recognized university in India.
