Job Title: Senior IT Database Administrator Microsoft SQL Server

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior IT Database Administrator to design, deploy, manage, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server databases and infrastructure hosted both on-premises and in cloud environments (IaaS/PaaS). The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in database performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery, with the ability to work in a global enterprise environment. This role will also involve collaborating with stakeholders to design and implement scalable database solutions while ensuring system security, compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Work (60%)

• Troubleshoot and resolve Microsoft SQL Server system and database issues, including root cause analysis and proactive mitigation.
• Collaborate with internal teams and vendor partners to provide timely and efficient support for operations.
• Manage day-to-day operations of Microsoft SQL environments, ensuring optimal server, service, and security performance.
• Apply patches, updates, and hotfixes to maintain system security and stability.
• Participate in and manage weekly on-call rotations and provide escalation support for critical SQL-related issues.

Architect/Design Work (20%)

• Partner with stakeholders to gather business and technical requirements, creating solutions aligned with organizational goals.
• Design and implement enterprise-grade Microsoft SQL Server architectures, including maintenance plans, backups, upgrades, performance tuning, and migrations.
• Scope, plan, document, and execute solutions for large-scale Microsoft SQL Server deployments, both on-premises and in Azure cloud environments.

Documentation and Compliance (20%)

• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of Microsoft SQL environments, processes, workflows, and troubleshooting guidelines.
• Ensure alignment with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Support internal and external audits related to Microsoft SQL Server operations, security, and compliance.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Expertise in architecting, implementing, and managing Microsoft SQL Server technologies in 24/7/365 enterprise environments, with emphasis on high availability and fault tolerance.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell and T-SQL for automation and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with VMware virtualization platforms and Azure IaaS/PaaS solutions for Microsoft SQL Server.
• Knowledge of storage subsystems related to database performance and operations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with global teams and stakeholders.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent Microsoft SQL certifications.
• 5+ years of experience managing Microsoft SQL Server databases (SQL Server 2012 and later) in enterprise environments.
• 2+ years of experience with Azure SQL database operations.
• 5+ years of experience in a distributed computing environment at a large-scale organization.
• Additional certifications in Microsoft Windows Server and related technologies are a plus.

Additional Requirements

• Fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including creating documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work in a sedentary role for extended periods (up to 8 hours a day).
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10%).
