Job Title: In-charge Engineering & Auxiliary
Location: Pipavav (Gujarat)
Job Summary and Purpose
The Incharge of Engineering & Auxiliary is responsible for overseeing engineering and auxiliary outfitting activities at the block stage within the shipyard, reporting to the Head of Machinery Outfitting. This role involves planning, coordinating, and executing outfitting work related to engineering and auxiliary systems, ensuring quality and adherence to project timelines. The Incharge supervises the Work Preparator/Material Controller and Supervisor Engineering & Auxiliary, ensuring that all outfitting activities align with project specifications and meet safety and quality standards.
The Incharge of Engineering & Auxiliary will ensure the successful completion of outfitting activities related to engineering and auxiliary systems at the block stage, providing guidance to the team, managing resources, and coordinating closely with other departments. This position is critical to maintaining outfitting progress in line with project schedules, optimizing resource usage, and ensuring compliance with shipyard standards.
Description and Key Accountabilities:
Outfitting Operations Management:
Oversee and manage engineering and auxiliary outfitting tasks at the block stage, including preparation, installation, and quality assurance.
Develop work schedules in coordination with work preparator for outfitting activities, ensuring alignment with project milestones and coordinating with other outfitting sections.
Ensure that all engineering and auxiliary outfitting works are executed in compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Supervision of Team Members:
Supervise the Work Preparator/Material Controller and Supervisor Engineering & Auxiliary, ensuring tasks are clearly defined, and support is provided for efficient work execution.
Guide the team in resource allocation, prioritizing tasks to maintain outfitting schedule and prevent delays.
Material & Resource Coordination:
Work closely with the Work Preparator/Material Controller to ensure the timely availability of materials, tools, and equipment necessary for engineering and auxiliary outfitting activities.
Track material usage, monitor inventory levels, and coordinate with procurement to prevent material shortages and minimize downtime.
Maintain accurate documentation of materials received, issued, and used, ensuring adherence to project budgets and inventory control standards.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
Implement quality control measures for all engineering and auxiliary outfitting tasks, conducting regular inspections to verify compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
Coordinate with the quality control team to address any quality issues, taking corrective actions as needed to meet project and regulatory requirements.
Ensure all team members adhere to health, safety, and environmental guidelines, promoting safe work practices at the block outfitting site.
Project Tracking & Reporting:
Monitor progress of engineering and auxiliary outfitting activities, tracking milestones, resource utilization, and timelines.
Provide regular updates to the Head of Machinery Outfitting on task completion, material status, and any challenges impacting the schedule.
Maintain and submit project records, progress reports, and data for internal and external audits, ensuring transparency and accountability in all outfitting activities.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in mechanical, Naval Architecture, Marine, or Industrial Engineering or a related field.
Additional certifications in Project Management, Quality Control, or Supply Chain Management are advantageous.
Preferred Experience:
7+ years of experience in engineering outfitting or project management within shipbuilding, oil & gas, offshore infrastructure or heavy engineering environments, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Hands-on experience with engineering and auxiliary outfitting tasks, including planning, installation, repairs and quality control.
Functional and Behavioural Competency:
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of engineering and auxiliary systems, including installation requirements and quality standards in shipbuilding.
Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage a team, setting clear goals, providing guidance, and maintaining productivity.
Quality Assurance & Compliance: In-depth knowledge of quality control procedures, industry regulations, and safety standards related to outfitting.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and planning skills to manage resource allocation, prioritize tasks, and maintain schedules.
Problem Solving & Decision Making: Effective problem-solving skills to address issues in outfitting work, material availability, and quality control.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office and project management software for tracking and reporting.
