Project Engineer

Job Title: Project Engineer (Materials)

Reports To: Project Manager Shipbuilding

Location: Pipavav (Gujarat)

Position Grade: Sr. Engineer

Roles & Responsibilities:

Materials Planning & Coordination:

1. Create and maintain comprehensive procurement schedule, in coordination with Design and Engineering Team.
2. Providing RAS (Required at Site) dates for all the procurement items based on stages of project as decided in the Build Strategy of the project.

Inventory Management:

1. Track and update procurement tracker via follow up with Design (Engineering) and Procurement department and ensure materials are stored and organized effectively for easy access and tracking.
2. Implement inventory control measures to minimize material wastage, damage, and losses.

Cost Control & Budgeting:

1. Track materials costs against the project budget, providing regular updates to the Project Manager on spending and potential cost overruns.
2. Support cost-saving initiatives by identifying alternative materials or suppliers without compromising on quality or timelines.
3. Provide input for budget planning, forecasting material needs, and assessing cost impacts based on project scope changes.

Documentation & Reporting:

1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all materials-related activities, including purchase orders, inventory logs, and delivery schedules.
2. Generate materials tracking reports and status updates for the Project Manager and senior management, highlighting any potential delays or shortages.
3. Ensure documentation compliance with the shipyards standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.

Interactions and Working Relationships

Internal:

1. Project Manager-Shipbuilding: Regularly report to the Project Manager on materials status, upcoming needs, and any potential delays affecting the project schedule.
2. Head of Planning & Program Management: Provide periodic updates and materials reports as needed to support broader project planning and resource allocation.
3. Design (Engineering) and Procurement Team: Collaborate closely with the design (engineering) and procurement team to ensure timely sourcing, order placement, and delivery of materials for shipbuilding projects.
4. Production & Warehouse Teams: Coordinate with production teams to meet material needs as per schedule and with warehouse teams for efficient inventory management and storage.
5. Quality Control Team: Work with the quality control team to ensure materials meet project standards, conducting inspections and addressing quality-related issues.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
2. Additional certifications in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, or Inventory Control are preferred.

Preferred Experience:

1. 5+ years of experience in materials management, inventory control, or supply chain, preferably within shipbuilding, heavy engineering, or manufacturing industries.
2. Proven experience in coordinating with cross-functional teams for materials planning and project management.

Functional Competency:

1. Materials Management & Planning: Strong knowledge of materials planning, inventory control, and supply chain principles within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
2. Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze inventory levels, forecast material needs, and manage material flows to meet project requirements.
3. Communication & Coordination: Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal teams, and stakeholders effectively.
4. Problem Solving & Decision Making: Competency in identifying materials-related issues, implementing corrective actions, and making informed decisions.
5. Financial Acumen: Understanding of cost control principles and budget tracking to support cost-effective materials management.
6. Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in ERP systems, inventory management software, and advanced MS Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
