Position Summary: The Civil Foreman is a critical role in the successful execution of construction projects. The Foreman will oversee daily site operations, manage labor productivity, and ensure that construction is carried out as per plans, specifications, and timelines. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in real estate construction, a strong understanding of labor management, and the ability to read and implement detailed construction drawings. The Foreman will also be responsible for adhering to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and maintaining a productive, safe, and efficient work environment.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in construction or project management will be an advantage.
Experience:
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the construction industry, particularly within real estate projects (e.g., residential or commercial buildings).
• Proven experience as a Foreman or in a similar role within the construction industry.
• Extensive experience in managing teams, understanding construction schedules, and ensuring productivity on-site.
Skills & Competencies:
• Labor Productivity: Ability to assess and improve labor efficiency and implement appropriate work schedules and plans.
• Project Scheduling: Familiarity with creating and maintaining a look-ahead program and ensuring the execution of daily/weekly work plans.
• Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of construction methods, drawings, and technical details. The ability to interpret and implement engineer specifications.
• Health and Safety Management: Knowledge of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) practices and the ability to implement and enforce safety measures.
• Communication: Strong leadership and communication skills to manage workers and liaise with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly identify problems and implement solutions to minimize disruption and delays.
Key Responsibilities:
• Site Supervision & Labor Management: Supervise and coordinate daily activities on-site, ensuring that labor is utilized effectively, and productivity targets are met. Manage a workforce, including skilled and unskilled laborers, by assigning tasks and ensuring efficient resource allocation.
• Labor Productivity & Scheduling: Assess and monitor labor productivity, making adjustments to the program as needed. Develop a realistic and efficient work schedule and ensure that workers adhere to deadlines. Implement programs to track and improve labor efficiency.
• Implementation of Look-Ahead & 7-Day Programs: Ensure that the look-ahead program (at least 7 days in advance) is followed and regularly updated. Proactively address potential delays or bottlenecks, adjust plans as necessary, and keep the team focused on immediate short-term goals while aligning them with the long-term project schedule.
• Technical Knowledge & Drawing Interpretation: Understand and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications provided by the engineer in charge. Ensure that the team is well-informed about technical details, quality standards, and scope of work outlined in the plans. Troubleshoot and clarify technical issues on-site.
• Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Enforce the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) program on-site. Regularly conduct safety checks, ensure proper use of safety equipment, and lead safety meetings. Ensure workers are trained in safe working practices and follow regulations to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
• Team Leadership & Communication: Provide leadership to on-site workers, motivate the team, and resolve any conflicts or issues promptly. Maintain clear and consistent communication with the project manager, engineers, and other stakeholders about progress, challenges, and safety concerns.
• Quality Control: Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the projects quality standards and specifications. Conduct regular inspections of work completed by laborers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with drawings and technical norms.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate daily records of labor hours, material usage, equipment usage, and any incidents or delays. Report site progress to the Site Manager or Project Manager regularly, including challenges, safety issues, and any changes to the plan.
• Resource & Material Management: Ensure that all required materials and tools are available on-site for the workforce to perform their duties. Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely availability of materials.
