The Shuttering Foreman is responsible for overseeing and managing the shuttering (formwork) operations on construction sites, ensuring that all formwork is constructed, maintained, and dismantled efficiently and safely. The role involves supervising a team of shuttering carpenters and laborers, coordinating with other trades, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and delivering formwork that meets the specifications and quality standards required for the project. The Shuttering Foreman will also work closely with the Site Supervisor and Project Manager to ensure project timelines and budgets are adhered to. Key Responsibilities: 1. Formwork Construction & Supervision
Supervise the installation, maintenance, and dismantling of formwork (shuttering) systems for concrete pouring as per project requirements and drawings. Ensure that all formwork is constructed safely, effectively, and to the correct dimensions and specifications. Oversee the construction of slab, wall, column, and beam formworks. Lead a team of shuttering carpenters and laborers in executing formwork activities efficiently while ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. Inspect and monitor formwork installations to ensure compliance with technical specifications and industry standards.
2. Team Leadership & Coordination
Supervise, train, and guide a team of shuttering carpenters, helpers, and laborers, ensuring they understand and follow safety protocols and quality expectations. Assign daily tasks to team members based on work schedules and priority areas. Ensure that team members use the correct tools, equipment, and materials while executing tasks. Coordinate with other construction teams (e.g., structural, electrical, plumbing) to ensure smooth operations and minimal delays in the overall project.
3. Health & Safety Compliance
Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety regulations, both on-site and in the use of materials, tools, and equipment. Conduct regular safety inspections and toolbox talks to promote a culture of safety within the team. Report any unsafe conditions or potential hazards to the Site Manager and take corrective actions to mitigate risks. Ensure workers are wearing appropriate protective gear (PPE) and adhere to all safety protocols during formwork operations.
4. Quality Control & Inspection
Conduct quality control checks to ensure that formwork is correctly assembled and ready for concrete pouring. Ensure that all materials used for formwork are of high quality and meet the specifications required for the project. Maintain a strong focus on the quality of the work to ensure that the formwork structure is stable, accurate, and ready for concrete without errors. Address and resolve any issues related to formwork quality or deviations from design specifications.
5. Material & Equipment Management
Manage the materials, tools, and equipment required for formwork activities, ensuring they are available when needed and properly maintained. Coordinate the delivery and storage of formwork materials to avoid delays or shortages on-site. Ensure the proper care and maintenance of shuttering equipment and tools to maximize their lifespan and functionality. Ensure that all equipment is inspected regularly for safety compliance and operational readiness.
6. Project Planning & Progress Reporting
Assist in the planning and scheduling of formwork activities to ensure that tasks are completed on time and within the project schedule. Track the progress of formwork operations and report any delays, issues, or challenges to the Site Manager or Project Manager. Maintain documentation related to formwork construction, including daily reports, materials used, and work completed.
7. Collaboration with Other Teams
Work closely with other foremen, site supervisors, and project managers to coordinate the sequencing of construction activities and ensure that formwork aligns with the broader construction plan. Collaborate with engineers and designers to clarify any technical or design-related questions and provide input on formwork solutions.
