National Sales Manager (NSM) Generics (OTC Brands)


Location: Mumbai
Department: Sales & Marketing
Reports To: Business Head


Job Overview:

Leading and driving the sales strategy for the Generics (OTC Brands) division. The role involves overseeing nationwide sales operations, developing and implementing business strategies, managing a high-performing sales team, and ensuring revenue and market share growth.


Key Responsibilities:


Sales Strategy & Business Development:

  • Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve business objectives for OTC Generics.
  • Identify market trends, opportunities, and competitive landscape to drive business growth.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to create and implement promotional strategies.
  • Ensure effective product positioning and pricing strategies in alignment with market demands.

Team Leadership & Performance Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a nationwide sales team (Regional Managers, Area Sales Managers, Medical Representatives).
  • Set and monitor sales targets, KPIs, and incentive programs for the sales team.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, training, and motivation programs to enhance productivity.

Channel & Distribution Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with distributors, wholesalers, and retailers.
  • Optimize distribution channels to ensure maximum product availability and market penetration.
  • Monitor inventory levels, sales forecasting, and supply chain efficiency to prevent stock-outs or overstocking.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the marketing, medical affairs, and regulatory teams to ensure product compliance and promotional effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with finance & supply chain teams for pricing, budgeting, and inventory planning.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key customers, trade partners, and institutional buyers.

Market Intelligence & Reporting:

  • Monitor and analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer insights.
  • Provide regular sales forecasts, performance reports, and strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance, regulatory, and ethical sales practices.

Key Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Business, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • 10-15 years of sales experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing OTC brands or generics.
  • Proven track record in leading large sales teams, achieving revenue targets, and expanding market share.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, OTC market dynamics, and regulatory requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in sales forecasting and data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools, sales analytics, and reporting systems.
  • Ability to travel extensively across regions for business development.
