Diesel engine works by compressing air in the cylinder and injecting fuel at the right time to ignite the mixture.

    • Air is compressed in the cylinder by the piston

    • Fuel is injected into the cylinder at the right time

    • The heat generated by the compressed air ignites the fuel

    • The expanding gases push the piston down, creating power

    • Diesel engines are more efficient than gasoline engines

  • Q3. What is the compression ratio
  • Ans.

Compression ratio is the ratio of the volume of gas in a cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke.

    • It is a measure of how much the engine compresses the air/fuel mixture before ignition.

    • Higher compression ratios can lead to better fuel efficiency and more power.

    • Compression ratio is calculated by dividing the volume of the cylinder at bottom

  • Answered by AI
  • Q4. What is swept volume
  • Ans.

Swept volume is the volume of space swept by a piston in an engine cylinder during one stroke.

    • It is the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke subtracted from the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the top of its stroke.

    • It is used to calculate the engine displacement.

Interview Preparation Tips

General Tips: "1. I felt the Apti was the toughest part in the whole process. 45 seconds is just not sufficient to answer the questions esp. the ones on Probability; so brush up on the math! If you've learnt your concepts well, the technical questions ought to be a breeze.
2. Make sure you speak some sense at least thrice in the GD, and you're through.
3. They never once interrupted me in the PI. They waited for me to complete what I was saying, and then the next question was based on my last two sentences! So be very careful of what you're saying esp. while answering the technical questions. Most importantly, be very genuine throughout the interview- speak your heart out- and don't worry about how it's going, in the middle of it!

Good luck."
Skill Tips: [It's generally good to ask them a question or two here. I asked them if I could choose my preferred work location, and how the work-culture was at Tata Motors]"
