Round 2 - Technical

(4 Questions)

  • Q1. Basics of wind turbine technology.
  • Q2. Working of dfig technology.
  • Ans.

DFIG technology stands for doubly fed induction generator, which is a type of wind turbine generator system.

    • DFIG technology uses a wound rotor induction generator with a partial-scale power converter to control the rotor current.

    • The power converter allows for variable speed operation and improved efficiency.

    • DFIG technology is commonly used in modern wind turbines to maximize energy capture and grid stability.

    • It allows ...

  • Q3. Working of transformer.
  • Ans.

A transformer is a device that transfers electrical energy between two or more circuits through electromagnetic induction.

    • Transformers work on the principle of electromagnetic induction

    • They have two coils - primary and secondary

    • The primary coil is connected to a source of alternating current

    • This alternating current creates a changing magnetic field

    • The changing magnetic field induces a voltage in the secondary coil

  • Q4. Working of induction motor.
  • Ans.

An induction motor works on the principle of electromagnetic induction to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy.

    • Induction motor has a stator and a rotor.

    • When AC current is passed through the stator windings, a rotating magnetic field is produced.

    • The rotating magnetic field induces currents in the rotor windings, causing it to rotate.

    • The rotor speed is slightly less than the speed of the rotating magnetic fie...

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: There was only a resume based selection. And it seemed they looked into the projects which were done.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: There was only a resume based selection. And it seemed they looked into the projects which were done.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HR round for ETLP primarily tried to see how the candidate deals with conflicts in the team which he may be leading. This they did by telling the candidate to recount stories from life where they either learned something, or had to implement a solution which didn't work, or had to settle a dispute and so on. The HR interview consisted of many questions where one had to "recount" stories from the past.
Tips: I feel I was selected mainly for the projects and internships (mainly the six month internship). It’s also important that the candidate be in control of where the interview is going so that he can bring it to his strong points.

Go through the projects done and know them inside-out.

General Tips: Look through important formulae and theory section. For core, be thorough with basic core fundamentals. It may help in an interview.

Interview Questionnaire

4 Questions

  • Q1. Questions about thesis & project work done in academic curriculum
  • Q2. About vibration
  • Q3. Mechanics
  • Q4. FEM

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Open for Programme/Departments: M. Tech and Dual (E.E., M.E. A.E.)
Number of Students selected: 7

General Tips: 1. Must read about FEM, Introduction to solid Mechanics.
2. Technical round is difficult.
3. Have a look on virtual instrumentation, flight mechanics.
4. CPI matters.
College Name: IIT KANPUR

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: I had a single interviewer. I started by telling about myself. After the general stuff, I moved on to the core engineering areas that I am interested in and the projects I had done. I was asked to explain any one of them. I did that pretty well and I guess he was impressed by the way in which I explained them. He asked me only a simple question after letting me choose the topic. He suggested FEA, but when I said I am not very comfortable with that we moved to mechanics (I suggested it).

Round: HR Interview
Experience: How another person would describe you, your interests, what you do to improve yourself, what have you done to improve your career, why Eaton, why no higher studies, where do you see yourself in 3-5 years, greatest achievement, one time when you went against authority, one time when you had a bad relationship with someone and how you sorted it out, strengths, weaknesses..usual HR stuff
Tips: Focus on courses that you really like and know them in and out. Also be very thorough on the projects that you have done. Speaking with confidence really helps. I wasn't really prepared, so for the HR questions I was quite frank even if I took some time. It would be good to think about all that you have done while going through common HR questions.

I could do well on the tech part since I could direct it to my comfort zones. I talked for about 15minutes on my DDP project. I had good projects on my resume and I think that helped too. I was able to direct my interviewer to my intern/DDP in the beginning itself. That was a good idea.

General Tips: I had a thorough understanding of my projects. It is good to have a very good understanding of the basics in the courses that you like/that are relevant.
College Name: IIT MADRAS

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Fairly lengthy discussion on the six month intern. Other questions also mainly about projects done.
Tips: Clear understanding of work done in intern.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Asked to site instances where... 'You showed your leadership skills'. 'Had a difference of opinion with mentor/manager at intern', 'you formed a good friendship with someone'...

They shortlisted about 25-30 people for interviews. Cg (>8.2) was definitely a criteria. I think having projects in fem or control systems helped. Not mandatory though.
Tips: Good communication skills.

For core: Know your projects inside-out. Revise fundamentals of some basic courses (strength of materials, control systems, fem).

College Name: IIT Madras
