Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I consulted my seniors for preparation of my resume. I believe that seniors provide the best provide you with the best possible insights in this regards.

Round: Test
Experience: The first round was the written test. The duration of the test was half an hour. The test consisted of questions on data interpretation, logical reasoning and analytics. The questions were pretty easy. The company shortlisted a lot of candidates for the Group Discussion (GD).

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The interview was, as I would call it, an HR and a puzzle based interview. Some questions from probability were also asked. The puzzles asked were tricky but easy at the same time. I cannot recall any of the puzzles that were asked.
Tips: Before appearing for the interview, I would suggest you to solve puzzles from a book named ‘Out of the Box’; the book contains some really good puzzles.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I used only one resume for all the companies that I applied in. I mentioned about my extra-curricular activities and my projects with the projects relevant to the profile on offer getting higher priority.

Round: Test
Experience: For the aptitude questions the preparations for the CAT examination that I had done earlier in the year proved to be availing. Whereas for the technical questions I studied topics like fluid machinery and IC engines.

The first round in Mu Sigma was the aptitude test. The test pattern was CAT based, but the difficulty level was pretty mediocre compared to CAT papers.
Tips: There was time constraint in the test. Therefore I would recommend you to practise some questions before appearing for the test to improve your speed.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The interview began by the interviewer asking me some HR questions. The last question I responded saying that Mu Sigma is company catering to the needs of solution seeking companies. To this the interview asked me come up with a problem that I felt the company would have to deal with and also an efficient solution to the same. I designed a problem which was related to the loss in sales of Refrigerator and I solved it using the 4P concept. Then they asked me a puzzle which was that in a room of height 100m to ropes are hanging one of 120m and another of 60m and your height is 10m then what is the maximum length of rope that you can cut.

College Name: IIT ROORKEE
Motivation: Mu Sigma is a company that deals with data so I went through their site and found what it does. Later the other queries related to the company were cleared by attending the pre placement talk.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There would be 15 questions based on general aptitude. Questions are extremely easy with time management being the key to get shortlisted. The time allotted is 25 minutes. Anyone scoring somewhere near 13-14  marks is sure to get selected.
Tips: Prepare Std X Mathematics. Questions are pretty easy. Scoring is +1for every correct answer and -0.5 for every incorrect answer.
Duration: 25 minutes
Total Questions: 15

Round: Problem Solving & Case Study
Experience: I was given a pseudo code with two nested loops to be operated. The code was extremely easy. This round also had a case study. I was given a case of an e-commerce company.
Tips: Coding part is pretty easy. The real elimination might be happening based on the student's approach to the case given. Case study demands each and every facet of the case to be seen and worked upon.

Round: Video synthesis
Experience: I was shown a video on the principles of Mu Sigma and was asked to synthesize the video in three points.
Tips: The key to crack this round is to understand the difference between synthesize and summarize. At times they even show video clippings of some Hollywood movies so make sure you are comfortable with the accent. One need to simply write the 3 key takeaway from the video.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: I was alloted a team with 8 other people. Mu Sigma's GD is a little different because the moderator becomes an active participant of the GD. My GD went on for more than 45 minutes.
Tips: Just make sure you speak well and deliver worthy points. I spoke only for around 5 minutes in my GD. So the key here is speaking no nonsense.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The interview round is the final round of selection. Questions were primarily based on my resume.Mu Sigma has this policy of maintaining your marks of each and every round. So suppose you score low in the case study, you might be asked to solve another case study in your interview.I was made to debate on google vs. Bing. I was also asked about my experiences handling different positions of responsibility.
Tips: Be ready to convince the interviewer that data analytics is for you. Questions like why Mu sigma and what if you don't get selected are common. Just be calm and make sure your resume is well prepared because they will ask about everything mentioned in your resume.

Skills: Analytical Ability, Data Interpretation, Inter Personal Skills, Coding ability, Team Work, General Aptitude, Time management
College Name: D.A.V. Jamshedpur
Motivation: Mu Sigma is for people who love the word 'Do'. It has a whole new approach towards data and man machine interaction. People who work at Mu Sigma suggest that it has a steep learning curve compared to other companies. These are reasons enough for a college fresher to apply for Mu Sigma.
Funny Moments: The initial form that they will ask you to fill will have lots of funny questions.

Duration: 20 minutes
Total Questions: 16

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: We were made into groups of 12.They gave us the topic when our group's turn came and gave 1 min time to collect our thoughts. At the end, each of us was asked to summarise.
Tips: Follow all basic rules of GD, speak proper english and convey your points clearly, speak relevantly, pay attention2 other speakers(useful when summarising), don't debate and raise voice, I felt content was as equally important as communication - think well and speak well. 7 out of 48 people got shortlisted.
Duration: 20 minutes

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Questions about resume, interests, company(heard of it before?), why interested in their job, what I expect from the job, what do you see yourself as in 2-3 yrs, if one I had a chance to do one thing,,what it would be.But one thing I can say, content matters; not just language though the latter is essential to communicate. 5 out of 7 people got the job.
Tips: Listen to ppt carefully, keep your resume ready, prepare to answer questions about your resume, your interests (better have a deep idea of whatever you state as your interest),don't bluff(bluff as less as possible), speak clearly and communicate well, follow all basic manners and code of conduct.

General Tips: Basically they test your understanding and analytical abilities - not much of preparation before hand is required. You just need to be clear about your concepts and have a good thought process.
College Name: NIT WARANGAL
Motivation: I just loved their no-nonsense, simplistic, straightforward approach, their criteria for selection and also the
interesting, challenging job in the sector of my preference (finance) with a decent pay in a company with a decent reputation which is not yet known to withdraw a job once offered.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The questions asked were more analytical and required a lot of thought process.A few questions from probability were asked, but they were a cake walk.
Duration: 20 minutes
Total Questions: 16

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Well there were around 10 students in my GD round. The topic had a lot of points while everyone in the group was
against it.I was the only candidate who spoke in its favor.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HR round went very smooth.I was asked to tell the interviewers what I had written in my resume and while I
stated that in between a few questions were shot at me.I believe that my previous endeavors in various mathematical competitions did the trick.Overall it went very well and I never felt that I was giving an interview.

General Tips: Be very clear about your future goals. No company desires a candidate who will leave the company within a year so and must be careful enough to state the right words when in the interview.GD is not about talking more, its about being precise and concise. So avoid fighting/debating and do not use heavy gestures.
