This institution was setup with a wonderful idea of promoting FOSS. It has a got a very young work force.
Dislikes
...eveloping a solid structure where team can be built it's not going to sustain.
Never pay good salary, has got all the issues associated with a typical goverment organization as well.
Bottom line, please consider joining the company, it's at best is an extention to your college, with teachers who doesn't really know about how the actual software industry heads the department.
HR is complete disaster, you never really get a proper HR policy here.
Government of Kerala, and head of IT department and it's secretary should really spend time on this to correct it's direction.
The company is an udertaking of Govt. of Kerala. The works are research oriented, so that we can learn new things.
Dislikes
...cally biased and based on personal favours. The recruitments are contract based. The salary and appraisal offered is very less compared to other IT firms. The most of the works are outdated ideas. The work environment can be simply described as a toxic one.The senior people who are supposed to do technical support was also hopless. They were just complaining/ criticizing the work by junior people. And most important factor is mistreating lady staff. There is no proper complaint committee, ad there were incidents like ignoring the employee complaints by the higher authorities.
The work culture in the company is very poor. There is no proper discussion or planning before starting a project. The program head and the technical coordinator have the worst attitudes. They believe they are superior and can do anything they want. Internal politics is rampant. Hard work and dedication from employees are overlooked, while those who use flattery and sweet words are favored and can easily survive.
Employee efforts are not appreciated, and they are often insulted publicly. There is constant pressure, and the technical coordinator does not even like it when employees smile, making it difficult for them to work peacefully. He is one of the worst individuals I have ever encountered.
Additionally, there is no support from the technical coordinator or the program head when employees face challenges during development. They lack the knowledge and skills to lead effectively but pretend to know everything. There is no well-informed or capable person to guide and support the employees.
If ur a techie looking for a career this place has potential - just be ready for the ultimate side quest : surviving office politics! The best part? Amazing colleagues who felt like family (the kind that laughs through the chaos). But beware, it's a classic government office where progress sometimes moves slower than a buffering Youtube Video on dial-up. Enjoy the ride, if you're up for a sitcom-worthy work experience!
ICFOSS seems to be stuck in a time loop where old projects never retire, and new initiatives are as rare as a solar eclipse. Fund generation? what's that? The org stills survives on shrinking government grands like a plant hoping for a rain in a drought . Job security feels like a game of musical chairs, and management decisions seem to be made with a roll of dice. It's like watching a sitcom where the plot never changes - but without the laugh track.
