Salary on time. Many initiatives are faculty friendly like SCOPUS access, Coursera etc. Working in christ is hectic and restless.
No work life balance. if You can work tirelessly throughout college timing and after it then only think to join. seems working in a corporate with many and close deadlines. Restless job culture. Any work may come up in a day and it will spoil the day. You need not plan your day as you can not but the university plans for you. very tight monitoring and when it comes to appraisal they check everything. It is difficult for an employee to be good in all areas but they expect it from all employees. during holidays also, expect to work without compensation (Monetary or CL). Process-oriented university and everything comes to the faculty.
Where do I start?????
This place is a HELLHOLE!!!
So I worked here for 3 years in department of Law central campus. I noticed following things----
1. MICROMANAGEMENT ULTRA PRO MAX- You cant sit and teach, you will be given 75-80 students in a class and if someone puts there head down or uses a phone you will be called out and told that you are unable to manage. Cant go one minute late and cant leave one minute early, like a school there is a bell.
2. SUBSTITUTION IN CASE OF LEAVE- So you will be asked to provide a substitute for your class in case you take a leave, so you have to beg others even in case of emergency, i have seen people in ill health take class because no one was taking their substitute,
3. MANAGEMENT BY HOD- So there is a person who is HOD there, she will have her set of favourites who will be shielded at all cost. These people can do any sort of offence and get away, whereas others if they go to class one minute late, they will be called out. She will show you like she is there for you, but she will be the one bringing you down.
4. HR PEOPLE- So these HRs are real piece of work. They have ZERO empathy and ZERO regard for people. People who are fulbright scholars are earning less and still sitting at asst professor and people who have nil publications and no record of any work are associate and paid more. Also these people are extorters, they see you weak and vulnerable they are going to pounce on you and ask money in case you leave.
5. UNREALISTIC SCOPUS EXPECTATIONS- They will spring stupid workload on you with 3 classes in a day and expect you to publish in scopus. They dont care what you publish, as long as they see your name in scopus.
6. RUDE DIRECTOR- So this man Director of Law, he is world's worst person ever. Full of himself, with no background in law, he is made so called Director. You go talk to him for something, he will never listen to you and keep on spilling poison from his mouth. Being a father he has zero regard for human beings.
7. PATRIARCHAL SETUP- Moral policing regarding clothes is at peak. You will be shamed not only teachers but students also. Requiring woman to wear coat over shirts to cover them while men can roam around like that is inhuman and ancient.
8. NORTH V/S SOUTH- If you are non mallu and non christian its better to remain unemployed than to go here. It will be really really difficult for them to accept you. In my tenure multiple north indians left simply because they trouble them and give them huge workload.
...t.
People will be there to support you always. You can learn a lot as a fresher.
You will always Salary on the first day of the month.
Food during Training Camps will be very good.
Obedient, Polite and Awesome students.
Work Stress is too much... especially for New joiners and Junior Professors. It will be very difficult to handle it for first few years. You will definitely end up in spending more on Medical.
No Job Security. Even after getting confirmation, you may be asked to leave within 4 or 5 days (Based on the mood of your immediate reporting authority, the Head)
Comfort Zone - if you started loving this environment, you will stick to it and will not move out.
Everyone talks about research but they will not let you do it.
They still think that research is your individual development but they will speak different.
Its very difficult to upskill(to industry standards) yourself if you join here... you will not have time... and updated ones will not stick here.
Holidays - Sundays and one Saturday in a month (Other Saturdays - Half a day working day)
Management imposes strict rules that are unethical.
Students are given up to 70 percent marks as assignments, which they do with the help of AI, and the rest of the marks are given high by the faculty as the results could affect their image in department meetings.
Staff members are micromanaged, and promotions and appraisals are given to people who belong to a particular religion.
Gives a feeling of working in a corporate company rather than an academic space.
