I will always remain grateful to The Cinemaholic for picking me up when I was nothing and giving me a chance to be read by millions of people worldwide. If you are someone who is interested in building a writing career and willing to take feedback positively, this is the perfect place for you! The Cinemaholic also has an incrediblecommitment to quality and an equally wonderful editorial team to back it up. Granted, there will be a lot of mistakes in the first few months, but if you are willing to stick to the task at hand and learn from your errors, your dedication will not go unnoticed. Special thanks and gratitude to Gautam, the founder and editor-in-chief, who, despite being strict towards deadlines and schedules, showed immeasurable compassion and empathy during my tenure there....Read More
Not a direct dislike, but people interested in applying to The Cinemaholic should be aware of the workload. During my tenure, I used to write around 3500-4000 words per day, which, coupled with the extensive research, required quite a bit of time. Although the workload is surely manageable with practice and anything can be overcome, I used to feel overwhelmed occasionally.

I don't think any media company does such rigorous and extensive training. If you really want to become a great writer who loves movies, this is the place to be. Salaries are almost double what other media companies pay.
Due to the work-from-home nature of the job, you don't get to know and meet your fellow employees.

Work to Salary ratio is a joke at this company. You are paid so low, so please don't join this place for the money. The Boss often gives unclear and divisive instructions, and if you seek to clarify he assumes that you're unintelligent. He also frequently detracts on his own statements. The volume of work is huge and is subject to frequent edits which is fine, but with the meagre pay, it just isn't worth all the effort. There is no room to grow at this company, you can't do part time or moonlight either because of the long, strenuous work hours. The Boss on many occasions, complains about how Google is not showing his website first instead of giving feedback to our articles. Overall, the whole experience at this company was utterly negative for me....Read More

First of all, your review is full of grammatical and punctuation errors. We do not hire writers with such poor writing skills. Secondly, Moonlighting is illegal in India. The fact that you wanted to do something illegal, proves your lack of credibility. Anyone intelligent who reads your review will immediately know that your review is fake. We are sure that you are not even a writer. You have been paid to write a fake review of our company.

There's nothing appreciative about the Cinemaholic.
1. The CEO will berate you rather than give you honest pointers that would actually help you improve. 2. He will chastise you and berate you to the point where you start doubting yourself. Also, he just does it to make himself feel better and superior. 3. He will hire you and promise to pay the agreed salary, but you'll soon be fired. 4. He will send you passive, aggressive texts and call you out for not being professional. But the truth is, he's the most unprofessional human being ever. He will expect you to do your work, even if your mother has died. 5. He will mentally harass you; when he's tired of doing that, he will have his bootlicker editor take the reigns. The list just goes on. He's so insecure that he'll try to find grammatical errors in this review. If you don't care about yourself or your mental health, apply to Cinemaholic. The CEO there will help you hate your life even more....Read More

I currently work here and can vouch for how amazing The Cinemaholic is. I joined as a Content Writer, and after just a year, I was also editing articles. If you really want to work hard and learn, this is the place to be.
Nothing to dislike, but if you are someone who is scared of hard work, or learning new things, it is advisable to not apply to this company.

I used to work for The Cinemaholic a while ago, but I am still thankful for all the things I learned there. The Founder of the website, Gautam, is inspiring to say the least. He gave me a chance to write for the website when I was a nobody. Working at The Cinemaholic made me the writer I am today. Thanks a lot for everything, guys!!!
Nothing that I can think of. If you are scared of quality work, then maybe you should avoid this company.

I made it though the test and interview stages and then was sent a long and confusing contract. I had a few questions about it as is well within my right as a potential employee, so I asked them those questions. The very next morning I got a really rude email from them saying that since I don't seem happy with their offer, they're rescinding it. That's it, they didn't even bother to answer the questions, just took away the offer. Extremely, extremely unprofessional behaviour on their behalf. Would not recommend this company to anyone!...Read More

First of all, as a senior writer/editor who has worked with Cinemaholic for 4 years, I can vouch for how supportive Gautam has been since day 1. It's disturbing to see some of the reviews posted here, because they couldn't be further from the truth. Any writer who is honest and hard-working will get to learn and grow within the team, as did I. But if you are dishonest and lazy, Cinemaholic is not the place for you. Many of the negative reviews written here are from the writers who were fired for plagiarizing....Read More

There are many good and a few mediocre things about the company, but I would like to talk about what's the best thing about The Cinemaholic: Training. I have been a writer for 8 years, and have worked at several publications, but the amount of attention given to every aspect of writing (grammar, style, research, format, approach) atCinemaholic is amazing. There's so much to learn if you are open-minded....Read More
If you are someone who has worked at big publications like the Times or Today group, this company may not be for you. Basically, Cinemaholic is for people who are flexible and willing to learn. If you are coming from a very rigid style of working, then don't apply.

1. There is a lot to learn. You will be doing a lot of research work, so ultimately, it will help improve your skills. 2. The editors give detailed and direct feedback, which makes it easier to make changes. Also, the team is supportive. Whenever I needed some help with the article, be it for research or writing style, every memberwas happy to help out. 3. Always received the salary on time. (Although I only worked here for a few months, so can't say this for sure) 4. The work is fun and engaging. 5. If, for some reason, I wasn't able to finish the articles on time, the editor and the CEO were understanding....Read More
1. The worst thing that I found about working at TheCinemaholic was the pay cut. They have a points-based system. So, the more editing work they do on your article, the more points will be cut. They start with a bar system that starts from 110 and then they keep deducting the points. Once you reach 90, they will deduct 10% of your salary (the exact scale might have changed now). Then, if multiple articles are delayed, the salary is deducted as well. I never had any pay cut, but there was always this threat hanging over my head, which made me anxious all the time. Now, this is a private company and they can run it however they want to. But, this should have been mentioned in my contract. If I had known this beforehand, I would have never joined this company. Again, my only issue with this is that they should have mentioned this in the contract itself. 2. A lot of people have mentioned the issues of the CEO so I am not going to dive into that, except that if you have to tell during the company interview that a lot of people can't handle this work and quit within 6 months, maybe its time to take a look at your company culture and stop blaming other people. Also, when I quit, he tried to tell me how I should have never joined the company and I took the job from someone who really needed it. This was after I told him that I am going through a tough time in my life and need some break for my mental health. 3. The workload is too much. Honestly, just don't join the company if you can't dedicate your entire day to it. Some days, I ended up writing around 5000 words. And on top of that, the research requires a lot of work. For instance, if you are writing about a TV show with 15 cast members, they would want you to go through the social media of every single one of them up till their oldest post. And you also have to check the comments, the videos, etc. Then, you have to go through their interviews and see if there is any information that you have missed. Finally, once you have all the information, you get to writing. This whole process takes a lot of work and a lot of time. And for me, the pay wasn't worth all this effort. Also, I want a work-life balance, which isn't possible with this job. Sometimes, I ended up working on Sundays as well, because with all the edits you get, you don't get the time to finish them up during your normal working hours, so you have to work on them during your one rest day. 4. Sometimes, I noticed that the edits didn't make any sense. They tell you one thing one day and something else the next day. But this happened rarely. Edit: I am making this update because there are a lot of 5-star reviews of the company here. I am sure that they asked the employees or ex-employees to give these reviews. As you will be able to see, the latest 5-star reviews were posted on 20th March, 21st March, another one on 21st March, 2 more on 25th March, and another on 27th March, 2024. Anyone with half a brain could see that these reviews aren't genuine....Read More

1) Cinemaholic does not function like other content mill blogs that pay per article. Instead, it offers a consistent influx of work, even though the relative pay is criminally low. 2) The communication between the writers and the CEO of the company was effectively streamlined. 3) Writers were given enough creative freedom.
1) Salaries rarely changed throughout my employment period. 2) Work was often unfairly divided between writers. 3) Promotions were inconsistent and the employer never offered a clear explanation about why certain employees were being promoted while others were not. 4) The obnoxious amount of editorial requirements changed almost every day and the employer often contradicted his own rules. 5) In the name of "feedback," the employer sent passive-aggressive emails that, at times, even ridiculed employees. 6) The employer used an unfair system views-based system to determine an employee's worth and even demonstrated favoritism toward one employee over others. 7) The company's hierarchy exists only for the sake of it. Senior writers and editors have the same responsibilities as the relatively newer employees. 8) The employer rarely takes ownership and blames employees when the website's overall views are down....Read More

Employer’s Response
Thanks for your feedback, but we would like to address your criticisms of the company. 1. Salaries Rarely Changed Throughout My Employment Period - This is a categorically false statement. You were offered increments twice during your tenure. We have proof of your communication with the company in both instances. 2. Work Was Often Unfairly Divided Between Writers - Every writer gets an equal amount of work since we follow an effort-based system -- and not a time-based system. So this, again, is a categorically false statement. 3. Promotions Were Inconsistent - Promotions are dependent on a lot of factors. It has little correlation with the time you spend at the Company. What matters the most is your attitude and how willing you are to accept responsibilities. 4. Amount Of Editorial Requirements - We focus on quality... a lot. So to say that the editorial requirements were obnoxious reflects more on you than us. We want to produce the best articles on the internet, and therefore our editorial requirements are strict. We are proud of our high-quality articles. 5. Feedback Emails - Feedback emails are sent in an honest attempt to improve your writing. If it feels passive-aggressive to you, then, again, it reflects more on your attitude towards work than anything else. Most writers who join The Cinemaholic appreciate our detailed feedback. 6. Favoritism Toward One Employee Over Others - This, again, is a grossly false statement. If an employee is promoted for his or her good performance, then that's not called favoritism. 7. Senior Writers And Editors Have The Same Responsibilities As The Relatively Newer Employees - Your statement makes it seem as if senior writers should have less responsibility. Again, it reflects on your attitude towards work. Seniority means you should have more responsibility - not less. 8. The Employer Rarely Takes Ownership And Blames Employees - Again, a grossly false statement. If you have proof of the employer blaming you for the website's performance, please share it here. Overall, clearly, you are unhappy about the fact that you were not promoted in the company and therefore venting your frustrations here. You were not willing to take on additional responsibilities, and that's why you were not promoted. Getting promoted would have meant more responsibilities. And as your feedback shows, you didn't have the right attitude towards work. The truth is that you wanted to get promoted so that you could work less. And that's not how we operate!

It was a work from home opportunity and the compensation was ok.
No work life balance. It's a 6 day work/week and around 12+ hours of work most days.

First of all, we are glad that you got to learn new things at The Cinemaholic. But we are also a little disappointed that you didn't share your full experience of working at The Cinemaholic. We would have appreciated it if you had also shared how the CEO of the company personally spoke to you and offered words of courage and support when you were going through a difficult time during Covid. He gave you the freedom to work at your own pace and even wanted you to take a break and come back to work only when you felt better. Such acts of empathy are very rare in the corporate world! Anyway, thanks for your work and time at The Cinemaholic.
