All senior level employees are reasonably independent. They can choose what they want to do mostly and how to do it. Regular interaction with all kinds of people and highly varied experience creates a wide ranging skill set. There is job security.

Dislikes

Financial powers are highly concentrated at the very top. Government sector restrictions coupled with private sector like deadlines and demands. Poor HR skills. Job security is the only carrot and the major HR policy is stick. There are periods of lull followed by periods of unreasonably hectic schedule. Only certain types of contributions which generally gel with the top management is recognised as useful skills, while other contributions however major are not recognised at all.
