Edcon gave me a scarce skill...the one which is opening doors for me. Edcon its going against its market.. its missing the boat. Reality is..the biggest market in South Africa is resting on Blacks.. they're the biggest market and yet Edcon has got rid of it's Black Buyers who understand the Market better. When I left Edcon, it was at the time it was losing it's market share. All Black buyers who used to understand it's market were removed..others dismissed unfairly. You can't expect a White or Indian person to understand the taste of Blacks when it comes to fashion. In my time when Edcon was doing well, during Steve Ross's era..Edcon was moving with it's market..but not today. The other thing that puts Edcon down is it's poor salary scales compared to what the market is offering. I was offered 3times more than what I was being paid by Edcon. Remember, an unhappy employee will reflect such grief on customer service.. take a lesson on the recent incidents of a customer who drove her car into Standard Bank and the one who peed at the centre of customer service floor in FŇB. All because of poor service delivery they received from the unhappy employees. Pay people well and they will serve your customers better. Lastly, treat your staff well, eradicate racial di§ discrimination and upskill more people of colour. Racism is subtle in Edcon yet it's effect drives Black Professionals away. Remember, the animosity you create with your staff, will escalate to your market. Your employees are part of your market. If you treat them well, you treat your market well. Personally, I don't buy in any of the Edcon stores because of the Racist treatment I received from my Line Manager. I DON'T even encourage my friends and relatives to buy there. Only few of my colleagues who are also trying leave this pathetic company.

People are leaving this company everyday. In my just 1 year of tenure I saw around 30 people left. Its like every 6 months the whole team changes as nobody can stay in such a downgrading company. Even the clients understands how demeaning is the owner. This company is an absolute nightmare to work for, and it all boils down to the owner, who is the worst person you could ever imagine. He tries hard to maintain a good face in front of others, but it doesn’t take long after working with him to see how truly pathetic he is as a person. Honestly, even an animal would be a better fit to lead. The owner’s behavior is beyond erratic—constantly changing his mind and creating chaos. His ego takes over when an employee tries to leave and move on, making their life miserable. He forces employees to send fake, flattering emails about the company and uses legal threats to intimidate those trying to escape. He expects employees to work endlessly without regard for their well-being. His behavior becomes utterly atrocious whenever someone attempts to leave his horrible company. It is a good company for freshers only. A fresher or junior can learn very well ( at the price of mental peace but I'll let it slide because of experience and knowledge) If you're looking for senior position, they might have you on board and fire you at any point of time.

Dislikes

Biased towards selective employees. Poor appraisal. They keep saying to take legal step if an employee serves less than 2 months notice period but on the other hand they lay off employees as their will without any notice period. They keep misbehaving unless you quit. They talk rubbish behind your back and in the industry when you quit.
