Its a wonderful place to work at if you don't seek any growth or learning opportunity. Appraisals are fair from the upper management given your immediate boss is unbiased. Also, new ideas are appreciated by the upper management if you manage to make your voices heard (which is the most difficult thing in this company given the strict hierarchy).

Dislikes

Compensation is decent, but growth is slow. In some departments, employees good at their job are kept at the same position for years instead of promoting them. An employee at a senior position has no work-life balance as getting calls from the management after work, sometimes late at night, is a common practice. There is no one to hear complaints against other employees (specially if they are your bosses) if you are being treated in an unfair or hostile manner. The work environment is quite abusive and hostile in some departments. The HR department is only for hiring and firing purpose and for organizing parties once a year. Exit process is quite troublesome if you decide to resign for better opportunity.

Over all a good office space with good cab and leave facilities for female employees.Good job security if someone devotes fully to this company.

Salary structure is too low for people in documention and operation department.

Some peoples are supportive, helpful but I suggest to everyone that never join this company if you want to ruin your life then you can go ahead.

Everything. From HR to Manager they will ruin your life. Salary hike is not good. You have to do night shift with less than per day salary.

Good guidance from senior manager and teammates are very helpful, training optional, jib security good, salary and appraisal standard, over all good....

...l, during Steve Ross's era..Edcon was moving with it's market..but not today. The other thing that puts Edcon down is it's poor salary scales compared to what the market is offering. I was offered 3times more than what I was being paid by Edcon. Remember, an unhappy employee will reflect such grief on customer service.. take a lesson on the recent incidents of a customer who drove her car into Standard Bank and the one who peed at the centre of customer service floor in FŇB. All because of poor service delivery they received from the unhappy employees. Pay people well and they will serve your customers better. Lastly, treat your staff well, eradicate racial di§ discrimination and upskill more people of colour. Racism is subtle in Edcon yet it's effect drives Black Professionals away. Remember, the animosity you create with your staff, will escalate to your market. Your employees are part of your market. If you treat them well, you treat your market well. Personally, I don't buy in any of the Edcon stores because of the Racist treatment I received from my Line Manager. I DON'T even encourage my friends and relatives to buy there. In a nutshell..get your in-house matters in order..then you will gain back your market share.
