Office or School? You Decide

So, today was a bit... different. Our CEO decided to channel their inner school principal. Around noon, all doors to the office were shut, and latecomers were left outside like kids caught without homework. Then came the speech. A classic about productivity, punctuality, and why “I worked late last night” is no excuse for tardiness. All that was missing was a ruler for dramatic effect. Thankfully, I was early today, sipping my coffee inside, watching this unfold like it was a reality show. Honestly, I half-expected someone to be asked to write “I will not be late” 100 times on the whiteboard. It was funny at first, but also… really? We’re all adults here. Maybe a gentle email next time instead of this back-to-school reenactment? The silver lining is that the punctuality police missed the fact that half the "early birds" me included were just scrolling Instagram at their desks anyway.

I get that punctuality is important, but don’t you think fostering a culture of trust and respect is more effective than strict rules?

I get it, but aren’t we all adults here? Do you think a reminder email or a casual meeting could’ve worked better than the ‘punctuality police’ vibe?

The whole situation is lowkey funny, but also makes you think...how much control should employers really have over our time?

It seems like there’s a disconnect between what the CEO wants and what actually motivates people. A better approach could be understanding individual work patterns and setting flexible working hours while focusing on outcomes. What’s your take on this?

The idea that office romance is unprofessional is outdated. It’s 2025. People spend more time with their coworkers than anyone else. If two adults are mature enough to keep things professional, why should anyone care?

Why is everyone so obsessed with keeping romance out of the office? If you’re a capable professional, does it really matter who you’re dating?
