Eni and Petronas Set to Combine Upstream Assets in Southeast Asia
- Italy’s Eni and Malaysian state oil and gas firm Petronas have agreed to discuss a joint venture that would combine and oversee some of their upstream assets in Malaysia and Indonesia.
- The joint venture will focus on investing in new gas development projects and become a major LNG player in the region.
- The combined assets include approximately 3 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) of reserves and an additional 10 billion boe of potential exploration upside.
- Any final transaction will be subject to relevant approvals.

Petronas right-sizing workforce for survival – GCEO
- Petronas plans to right-size its Global workforce aiming to reduce "enablers" (those in administrative roles) and ensure its survival in the coming decades amidst evolving and challenging global operating environment.
- Petronas is not retrenching employees but redeploying them in new roles, as it plans to introduce a new structure in the second half of 2022.
- As per Muhammad Taufik, the Petronas Group CEO, the exact number of job positions that will be affected is still unknown.
- Petronas currently has 15,000-16,000 enablers out of its 52,000-53,000 global workforce, and this ratio is above industry average.
- This exercise is mainly aimed at reducing the number of administrative roles and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
- The right-sizing move is not related to the Sarawak government's request to take over the gas collector role from Petronas in Malaysia’s gas-producing state, according to Muhammad Taufik.
- To remain viable, Muhammad Taufik emphasised that Petronas needs to be cost-efficient and nimble to respond to new market dynamics by diversifying into new products, including specialty chemicals, technology, renewable energy and clean gas produced using CCUS technology.
- Other major oil companies have also made job cuts, including Shell, which cut 20% of its workforce in two exploration subdivisions while ExxonMobil plans to reduce nearly 400 jobs by 2026.

- Petronas Lubricants Asia has launched Urania with StrongTech range of engine lubricants for diesel-powered light commercial vehicles.
- The range includes three grades: Urania 500 LCV LA 5W-30 fully synthetic oil, Urania 3000 LCV LA 10W-40 semi-synthetic oil, and Urania 300 LCV 15W-40 mineral oil.

Petronas launches transition assistance programme for NGV users – one-off payments, kit removal
- Petronas has launched a Transition Assistance Programme for NGV users to help them transition to alternative fuels.
