- The upgrade decision also includes airports in Bhopal, Madurai, Surat, Udaipur, and Vijayawada.
- The Maharaja Bir Bikram airport is the second busiest in the northeastern region, managing 14 flights and 4,000 passengers daily.
- The elevation grants the airport similar facilities to Guwahati's Lokpriya Bordoloi airport and more financial power for the airport director to undertake development projects.

Kerala AAR Takes Contrasting Stance On AAI-Adani Thiruvananthapuram Concessionaire Pact, Experts Say
- The Kerala bench of GST Authority for Advance Ruling has taken a contrasting stance on the concessionaire agreement between the AAI and Adani Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd., finding it liable to pay Goods and Services Tax.
- The ruling stands different from the ones seen in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh, where AAR decisions stated that transfers of airports are exempt from GST.
- The Kerala AAR ruled that the AAI-Adani agreement does not constitute 'transfer of business' and cannot be treated as 'transfer as going concern' for GST exemption.
- GST will be levied on the concession fees charged by AAI, as well as on invoices raised for reimbursement of staff cost of the concessionaire.

GST leviable on AAI-Adani concessionaire pact for Thiruvananthapuram airport: Kerala AAR
- The Kerala Authority for Advance Ruling (AAR) has ruled that the concessionaire agreement between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Adani Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd for the development of Thiruvananthapuram airport is subject to GST.
- Contrary to previous rulings by other AARs, the Kerala AAR concluded that the agreement does not constitute a transfer of business and is not treated as a 'transfer as going concern', making it liable for GST.
- The AAR also stated that GST is payable on the amounts received as consideration for leasing/supply of assets by AAI to the concessionaire, as well as on annual concession fees and reimbursement of salary/staff costs.
- The conflicting interpretations by different AARs highlight the need for clearer national-level guidance to ensure consistency in the application of GST laws.
