Gastroenterology Technician

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for gastroenterology procedures such as endoscopies, colonoscopies, and sigmoidoscopies.
• Assist gastroenterologists during procedures by handling medical instruments and equipment.
• Operate diagnostic equipment, such as endoscopes, and ensure they are functioning properly.
• Monitor patient vital signs before, during, and after procedures.
• Provide sedation and ensure patient comfort during procedures, as needed.
• Educate patients on the procedure and post-procedure care instructions.
• Ensure the proper sterilization and maintenance of medical instruments and equipment used in gastroenterology procedures.
• Calibrate and troubleshoot diagnostic devices to ensure accurate results.
• Record patient information, including medical history, procedure details, and any complications that may arise.
• Document and maintain patient records accurately for further treatment and follow-up care.
• Help with biopsies, polypectomies, and other interventions as directed by the gastroenterologist.
• Administer contrast agents or medications under the supervision of the physician.
• Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other medical staff to ensure smooth and efficient patient care.
• Ensure effective communication regarding patient status and procedure outcomes.
• Follow strict infection control protocols, including sanitizing workstations and tools.
• Ensure safety measures are adhered to during the handling of potentially infectious materials.

Preferred Candidate Profile:

Qualifications:

• Educational Background: Diploma or degree in Medical Technology, or a related field with a specialization in gastroenterology or endoscopy technology.
• Certifications: Certification in Endoscopy Technology or similar qualifications (if applicable in the region or country).
• Experience: Previous experience (7+ years) working as a gastroenterology technician, endoscopy assistant, or in a related healthcare role. Familiarity with endoscopy equipment and procedures is preferred.
