General Manager - Operations - Warehouse & Transportation (12-18 yrs)

Role Overview:

The General Manager - Warehouse and Transportation is responsible for leading and optimizing warehouse operations and transportation functions. This includes managing inventory, streamlining logistics processes, ensuring on-time delivery, and enhancing operational efficiency. The role demands strategic planning, team leadership, cost management, and adherence to compliance and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Warehouse Operations:

- Oversee day-to-day warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, inventory control, and dispatch.

- Implement best practices for warehouse layout optimization, productivity improvement, and cost reduction.

- Ensure accurate inventory management, periodic cycle counts, and reconciliation.

- Monitor warehouse KPIs (e.g., inventory accuracy, order fulfilment rates, and turnaround times).

- Deploy and manage warehouse management systems (WMS) for operational efficiency.

Transportation Management:

- Manage inbound and outbound transportation, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.

- Develop and optimize transportation strategies, including route planning and load optimization.

- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and safety standards.

- Build and manage relationships with logistics service providers and carriers.

- Monitor and analyze transportation performance metrics (e.g., on-time delivery, cost per shipment).

Leadership & Team Management:

- Lead, mentor, and develop warehouse and transportation teams across multiple locations.

- Set performance goals and ensure alignment with business objectives.

- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and accountability.

Strategic Planning & Cost Management:

- Develop and execute long-term strategies for warehouse and logistics efficiency.

- Optimize operational costs through process improvements and vendor negotiations.

- Prepare and manage budgets for warehouse and transportation operations.

Compliance & Safety:

- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.

- Maintain compliance with legal, regulatory, and customer-specific requirements.

- Conduct regular audits to ensure process and safety compliance.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA preferred).

- 12-18 years of experience in warehouse and transportation management, preferably in a large-scale or multi-site environment.

- Proven leadership experience managing large teams and complex supply chain operations.

- In-depth knowledge of WMS, TMS, and other logistics technology systems.

- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
