Cisco Next-Generation Fire Power Threat Defence (FTD) is the flagship product of the Security Business Group (SBG). FTD integrates award-willing ASA Firewall services and worlds best and most well-known IPS engine SNORT in to a high-performance appliance. It is an extremely successful product and continues to lead the market with threat centric focus and market-differentiating features. Though we take phenomenal pride in being market leaders in threat security for a long time, we are constantly innovating and improving our solutions to address the ever-changing threat perceptions and changing data security paradigms so that our customers are always secure. Currently, FTD team in India is looking for dedicated and motivated individuals who can work effectively in a collaborative environment and lead/contribute to the development of our next-generation firewall technologies.

Primary Responsibilities:

Developing new platforms and platform capabilities for Next Generation Firewall-Security Platforms

What Youll Do

You will be responsible for developing new platform infrastructure and capabilities

for the Firepower Next-Gen Security Platforms.

You re an extremely motivated Lead Software Engineer and passionate about learning and contributing to the team and the business with "can do" attitude and stretch to finish the tasks much before the targets.

Strong design/ programming ethic. Knowledge of designing large-scale systems in Scripting languages is helpful. Experience in Scripting is recommended. Additional experience on C programming is helpful.

Dedication to Quality: Ability to ensure and commit to a higher standard of quality than usual in the face of time-to-market pressures.

Strong OS fundamentals and networking concepts are a requirement.

Good experience in networking and security systems

Participate in designing and developing of New/Existing Functionality in the Product

Ability to focus on deep internal aspects of the feature

Who Youll Work With

You will work with the young, energetic & dynamic security development team. You will also have to closely work with the TMEs/ PMs to define strategies for further products. Cisco is changing the way we work, live, play, and learn.

Who You Are

This is a technical and individual contributor role that requires a strong background in software development and testing of complex systems, capability to address complex problems concerning firewall upgrades with network management, ability to work with multiple teams located in different time zones. Ideally you will have Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with about 8-12 years of proven experience.

PhD in computer science with 4+ years of academic background in R & D and involved in multiple projects is a good fit for this position with startup working culture. This role requires thinking independently out of the box, create the ideas, take up the initiatives, guide the team in executing Proof Of Concepts to improve the overall Firewall Upgrade experience is an added advantage.

You will contribute to the team in the following ways:

  • Be familiar with waterfall and agile development methodologies. Daily activity will be based on agile.
  • You will need a technical oriented perspective and must also see the requirements as needed by the customer. You must have a desire to either break or push functionality beyond what is specified and find loopholes in the modules
  • Participate in the software development workflow, drive architectural meetings with cross team collaboration with the good quality by meeting the timelines.
  • Assist in the software development process and workflow as it pertains to the use of source code management. This means being completely familiar and at ease with committing, reviewing, and branch management for the software under development as well as any automation that is crafted for the effort.
  • Be willing to learn, adapt, and adopt new technologies as needed in the areas of hardware, software platforms, and development and test frameworks.

Experience Required:

8+ plus years of hands-on development experience in Linux, Python, Perl, shell, Go lang development skills.

Strong scripting programming skills along with C programming is a plus

Prior experience of writing framework for Upgrade / Downgrade of firewalls

Good with writing distributed platforms and system software

Deep understanding of Linux system and network concepts and writing independently using scripting languages.

Strong analytical and logical solving skills

Prior experience in leading platform development activities.

Aptitude to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Highly Desired skills:

Knowledge of Networking Products

Experience and knowledge on -

Basic knowledge on Routing & Switching and networking protocols.

Hands on experience with Legitimate and Malware Application Traffic generator tools, Linux, Windows, Packet tracer, Wireshark, and tcpdump Tools

Familiar with - Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Juniper, Fortinet products preferred

Strong automation background on python etc.

Handle multiple tasks at once and work independently with minimal managerial mentorship

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong team-building skills. This role requires the ability to work across departments and with other teams

Ability to continuous learning and committed to ongoing self-improvement.

Ability to initiate and participate in organizational efforts to improve overall group productivity and effectiveness

Prior experience of Upgrade / Downgrade of firewalls.

Self-starter and pickup any technology and quickly come up with POCs to develop for the product.

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings.

Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter. Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
