Job Summary

The Internal Logistics Head will be responsible for managing and optimizing the movement and flow of materials and products within the stainless steel mill. This includes overseeing raw material handling, in-plant transportation, equipment maintenance and coordination between various departments to ensure seamless operations, reduced costs, and adherence to production schedules.

Key Responsibilities

1. Material Handling and In-Plant Logistics

• Oversee the receipt and internal movement of raw materials, semi-finished, and finished goods.
• Optimize material flow between production units, ensuring no delays or bottlenecks.
• Implement systems for efficient loading, unloading, and transportation of materials using conveyors, cranes, forklifts, etc.

2. Process Optimization

• Identify and implement improvements in internal logistics processes to minimize delays and costs.
• Use Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to enhance efficiency.
• Develop and monitor KPIs for logistics operations.

3. Cross-Functional Coordination

• Collaborate with production, quality control, and maintenance teams to align logistics with production schedules.
• Act as a liaison between the procurement, operations, sales and dispatch teams for seamless operations.

4. Fleet and Equipment Management

• Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of internal logistics equipment such as cranes, trucks, forklifts, heavy material movement equipment and trolleys.
• Plan for the replacement, procurement, or upgrading of equipment as needed.
• Plan for the placement of railway rake for bringing in raw material import containers from port and utilizing the same for moving export containers to port. To Ensure 100% utilization of rake both ways.

5. Spare Parts Stock Management

• Monitor and control inventory levels for consumables like Diesel, Lube oils and spare parts.
• Ensure that spares and consumables are stored in optimal conditions, maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Work with procurement and production teams to ensure adequate inventory levels are maintained without overstocking.

6. Compliance and Safety

• Ensure that all logistics activities comply with regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.
• Conduct safety training for the logistics team and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

7. Team Leadership

• Lead, train, and develop the internal logistics team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
• Manage workforce planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet operational needs.

8. Reporting and Documentation

• Prepare regular reports on logistics operations, inventory levels, and performance metrics.
• Maintain accurate records of material movements and ensure proper documentation for audits and compliance.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or related fields.
• Master’s degree or MBA in Operations or Supply Chain (preferred).

Experience

• 8–12 years of experience in logistics and supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing or integrated steel/stainless steel plant.
• Proven experience in managing large teams and complex logistics operations.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong understanding of logistics and supply chain principles.
• Proficiency in ERP and logistics management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.

Technical Knowledge

• Familiarity with stainless steel production processes and material flow requirements.
• Understanding of heavy machinery, transportation equipment, and warehouse management.
