Grit Blaster

The Grit Blaster is responsible for performing abrasive grit blasting to achieve SA 2.5 cleanliness standards, ensuring surfaces are adequately prepared for industrial coatings. This role involves handling blasting machines and related equipment to deliver quality surface preparation, which is critical for the durability and adherence of subsequent coatings.

Responsibilities:

Abrasive Grit Blasting

• Perform abrasive grit blasting to achieve SA 2.5 cleanliness on designated surfaces.
• Ensure consistent blasting coverage, removing contaminants and achieving optimal surface roughness.
• Adhere to specified standards for surface preparation, ensuring the quality and durability of subsequent coatings.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

• Operate blasting machines and related equipment, ensuring all tools are functioning properly and safely.
• Conduct routine maintenance on equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure operational readiness.
• Report any malfunctions or issues to supervisors promptly for timely resolution.

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all safety standards, including proper PPE usage and adherence to OSHA and ISO regulations.
• Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards in the work environment.
• Participate in safety briefings and training sessions to remain updated on safety practices.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of blasting activities, including surface preparation details and equipment maintenance logs.
• Document and report any quality issues or deviations from standards to supervisors.
• Assist in generating reports for quality control and safety compliance reviews.

Education:

Diploma in a related field OR

Experience:

Minimum of 3+ years of experience in grit blasting within an industrial setting.

Quality and Efficiency

Rework: Number of times a surface needs to be re-blasted. Surface Prep Time: Time taken to prepare a specific surface area. Material Waste: Amount of abrasive grit wasted during the process. Productivity: Area Coverage (Sqm covered/hr)

Safety

Accidents: Number of accidents or injuries. Safety Violations: Number of times safety rules are broken.
