Land Surveyor

Role & responsibilities

A Land Surveyor is responsible for measuring and mapping the Earth's surface to provide critical data for construction, land development, and legal purposes. They utilize specialized surveying equipment, technology, and mathematical principles to determine boundaries, elevations, and other land features. The surveyors work ensures that projects comply with legal, environmental, and safety regulations, and serves as the basis for planning, designing, and constructing roads, buildings, utilities, and other infrastructure.

• Conduct Land Surveys: Perform field surveys to measure and map land features using tools such as total stations, GPS equipment, theodolites, and drones.
• Survey Drafting: Prepare survey plans and drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software to create digital maps that represent land features accurately
• Site Assessments: Conduct field inspections and assess construction sites to determine land elevations, land contours, and any potential obstacles or challenges for construction.
• Maintain Surveying Equipment: Ensure the proper use, calibration, and maintenance of surveying equipment, including Total Stations, GPS devices, and laser scanners.
• Experience: Previous experience in land surveying, including experience with surveying equipment and software. Entry-level or junior positions may require fewer years of experience.

• Office Work: Data analysis, report preparation, and the use of surveying software are typically performed in an office setting.
• Travel: May require travel to various work sites, depending on the project location.
