Job Description

An Assistant Manager - Business Development plays a key role in driving the growth and expansion of a company. This position involves identifying new business opportunities, building strong client relationships, and supporting the development and execution of business strategies. The Assistant Manager - Business Development works closely with senior management to align business goals, create sales strategies, and expand market share. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, communication skills, market research, and relationship-building abilities.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Business Development Strategy : Assist in developing and implementing strategies to identify and pursue new business opportunities. Work closely with senior management to support growth initiatives and enhance the company's market position.
  • Market Research and Analysis : Conduct market research to identify industry trends, competitor activity, and customer needs. Analyze data to identify potential opportunities for business expansion, new product/service offerings, and new target markets.
  • Lead Generation : Identify and target potential clients or customers through various channels, including cold calling, networking, and industry events. Qualify leads and convert them into new business opportunities.
  • Client Relationship Management : Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective clients. Understand their business needs and offer tailored solutions to meet their goals.
  • Proposal Development : Assist in the preparation of proposals, presentations, and contracts for potential clients. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that proposals are competitive, accurate, and aligned with the company’s offerings.
  • Sales and Revenue Growth : Support sales teams in achieving revenue and growth targets. Identify opportunities to cross-sell or upsell products/services to existing clients. Monitor and report on sales performance metrics.
  • Contract Negotiation and Closing : Assist in negotiating terms and closing deals with clients. Ensure that all agreements comply with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams : Work with various departments, including marketing, finance, and operations, to ensure seamless execution of business development initiatives. Share market insights and customer feedback to improve service offerings and marketing strategies.
  • Customer Feedback and Improvement : Gather feedback from clients to assess the satisfaction levels and identify areas for improvement. Use feedback to improve business development strategies and services provided.
  • Networking and Business Development Events : Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and other networking events to build brand visibility and develop new business relationships.
  • Reporting and Documentation : Maintain accurate records of all business development activities, including lead generation, client meetings, proposals, contracts, and sales. Prepare regular reports for senior management to track progress against targets.
  • Sales Pipeline Management : Oversee and manage the business development pipeline, ensuring that all opportunities are tracked, followed up, and progressed through the sales cycle.
  • Market Expansion : Explore and identify new geographic markets or verticals that present opportunities for business growth. Develop a strategic approach for expanding into these markets.
  • Team Collaboration and Mentorship : Provide support and guidance to junior business development team members. Share best practices, mentor team members, and contribute to their professional growth.

Skills and Qualifications :

  • Educational Background : A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree (e.g., MBA) is a plus.
  • Experience : Proven experience in business development, sales, or a related field, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a similar role. Experience in managing business development activities and supporting sales teams.
  • Strategic Thinking : Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to identify growth opportunities and align business development efforts with the company’s long-term goals.
  • Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to create compelling presentations, reports, and proposals. Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Sales and Negotiation : Proven experience in closing deals, negotiating terms, and managing the sales cycle from lead generation to contract finalization.
  • Market Knowledge : Strong understanding of market dynamics, customer behavior, and competitive landscapes. Ability to conduct detailed market research and analyze trends.
  • Client Relationship Management : Ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with clients. Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Project Management : Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Data Analysis : Ability to analyze market data, sales performance, and customer feedback to drive business development strategies. Proficient in using CRM tools and data analytics software.
  • Team Collaboration : Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and operations. Comfortable working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Problem-Solving : Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges and remove obstacles in the business development process. Ability to think creatively and propose innovative solutions.
  • Adaptability : Ability to adapt to changing market conditions, customer needs, and business strategies. Willingness to take on new challenges and learn new skills.
  • Presentation Skills : Ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations to potential clients, stakeholders, and senior management.

Desirable Skills :

  • Industry Expertise : Familiarity with the industry in which the company operates (e.g., technology, healthcare, finance) is a plus. Specialized knowledge in certain verticals can be beneficial.
  • CRM and Sales Tools : Proficiency in using CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and sales tools to manage customer relationships, sales pipelines, and reporting.
  • Leadership Skills : Experience managing or mentoring junior staff or teams. Ability to guide and motivate team members to achieve business development goals.
  • Global Market Experience : Experience in expanding business into new geographic regions or managing international clients can be advantageous.
  • Digital Marketing : Basic understanding of digital marketing strategies, including content marketing, SEO, social media, and email marketing, to support business development efforts.
