Job Overview:
The Assistant General Manager of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) will oversee and manage all environmental, health, and safety activities within the organization. This includes ensuring compliance with all local regulations, developing and executing programs to promote a safe and healthy work environment, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in environmental and safety performance. The AGM will also lead EHS-related training, audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
EHS Compliance Management:
Ensure compliance with EHS regulations, standards, and local laws for all operations.
Monitor regulatory changes and ensure timely updates to internal processes and policies.
Maintain and manage EHS documentation including safety reports, incident records, and compliance audits.
Risk Assessment and Management:
Identify potential EHS risks in the workplace and recommend solutions.
Conduct and manage regular risk assessments to prevent incidents or accidents.
Collaborate with departments to address and mitigate potential hazards.
Safety Programs and Policies:
Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
Lead the development and implementation of safety initiatives, including accident prevention, emergency response planning, and hazard analysis.
Provide recommendations for equipment and facility improvements that promote a safe and healthy work environment.
Incident Investigation and Reporting:
Lead and manage investigations into workplace incidents, injuries, and near-misses.
Ensure proper documentation and reporting of incidents to regulatory agencies as required.
Analyse trends in incidents and propose corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Training and Awareness:
Design and deliver training programs to employees on EHS topics, including safety procedures, proper use of protective equipment, hazardous material handling, and emergency response.
Ensure that all employees are properly trained and certified in relevant EHS protocols.
Foster a culture of EHS awareness and responsibility at all levels of the organization.
Environmental Management:
Develop and manage environmental programs to reduce the companys environmental footprint.
Oversee waste management, air and water quality controls, hazardous materials handling, and energy conservation programs.
Ensure that the company meets all environmental regulatory requirements and targets.
Audit and Inspection:
Lead and conduct regular EHS audits, inspections, and reviews to assess compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
Ensure corrective and preventive actions are tracked and implemented to address identified issues.
Provide leadership and guidance during external inspections or audits by regulatory agencies.
Reporting and Performance Metrics:
Prepare and present EHS performance reports for senior management, including key metrics, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
Track and report on key safety and environmental performance indicators, ensuring the company's goals are being met.
Maintain records of EHS performance metrics and audit outcomes.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
Manage and mentor a team of EHS specialists and staff to drive safety initiatives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, human resources, legal, etc.) to ensure EHS is integrated into business processes.
Champion EHS culture, helping to instill a proactive approach to health, safety, and environmental management.
Experience:
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in EHS management or related roles, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or senior management position.
Reporting:
Reporting to Vice President - Operations.
