Technical Writer (Mechanical Engineering Focus)

Role & responsibilities

• User Requirement Document (URD) Development:
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to gather and analyze user needs and translate them into comprehensive URDs.
• Define functional and non-functional requirements, use cases, and acceptance criteria.
• Ensure URDs are clear, unambiguous, and aligned with project goals.
• They should be concise and specific as per the client requirements to be used by Design engineers for delivery.
• Technical Documentation Creation:
• Create detailed specifications, design documents, and test procedures.
• Generate accurate diagrams, illustrations, and schematics to support technical content.
• Information Gathering and Analysis:
• Conduct research and gather information from various sources, including engineering drawings, technical specifications, and subject matter experts.
• Analyze and interpret complex technical data to create clear and concise documentation.
• Documentation Review and Editing:
• Review and edit technical documents for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to style guidelines.
• Ensure documentation meets quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with engineers, designers, and other technical staff to ensure accurate and timely documentation.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to clarify requirements and provide updates on documentation progress.
• Maintain document control and versioning.
• Continuous Improvement:
• Identify opportunities to improve documentation processes and content.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in technical writing and mechanical engineering.

Preferred candidate profile

• Proven experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in a mechanical engineering environment.
• Demonstrated ability to create comprehensive URDs and other technical documentation.
• Experience with document management systems and technical writing tools.

Skills:

• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, concepts, and terminology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into clear and concise language.
• Proficiency in using technical writing tools and software (e.g., MS Office Suite, Adobe Technical Communication Suite, CAD software, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
