Job Summary :
As a Data Modeller, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing data models that facilitate the efficient storage, retrieval, and analysis of business data.
You will work closely with data architects, engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to ensure that data models are aligned with business requirements and support data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities :
- Design and develop data models (conceptual, logical, and physical) to support business requirements, data analytics, and reporting needs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and capture data requirements and translate them into effective data models.
- Create and maintain normalized and denormalized data models, and support the adoption of industry standard data modeling techniques such as star schema, snowflake schema, and dimensional modeling.
- Ensure the integrity, quality, and security of the data model to align with the company's data governance policies.
- Design data models that integrate data from multiple sources, including transactional systems, operational databases, data lakes, and external APIs.
- Work with data engineers to ensure seamless extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data into data warehouses, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
- Implement and maintain processes for data lineage tracking, ensuring full transparency of how data flows and transforms through the system.
- Continuously optimize data models to improve the performance of queries and reports, including identifying opportunities for indexing, partitioning, and caching.
- Work with business intelligence and analytics teams to design models that improve query efficiency, data accessibility, and support scalable reporting solutions.
- Work with business analysts and product managers to understand business processes, goals, and data needs.
- Translate business requirements into data solutions by designing models that reflect the real-world business scenario.
- Ensure data models are understandable and usable by non-technical teams, including providing clear documentation and guidelines for querying and using the data.
- Follow best practices for data modelling and database design, including naming conventions, metadata management, and version control.
- Establish and enforce data modeling standards to ensure consistency, scalability, and maintainability across the organization.
- Contribute to the development of data governance strategies to ensure data is accurate, clean, and complies with regulatory standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications :
- Proven experience as a Data Modeller, Data Architect, or in a similar role with a strong understanding of data modeling concepts.
- Expertise in designing and developing relational and dimensional data models (conceptual, logical, and physical).
- Proficiency with data modelling tools such as Erwin Data Modeler, IBM InfoSphere Data Architect, or Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools.
- Experience with database technologies like SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar.
- Solid understanding of ETL processes, data warehousing, and integration techniques.
- Knowledge of cloud data platforms (AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake) and modern data architectures.
- Familiarity with data governance principles, data quality, and data privacy best practices.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to design efficient and scalable data models for complex business requirements.
Preferred Skills :
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or HBase.
- Familiarity with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
- Knowledge of Data Science and how data models support predictive analytics and machine learning.
- Understanding of data privacy regulations (e., GDPR, CCPA) and their implications for data architecture and modeling.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and working in Agile teams
