Fire Fighting System Site Engineer Job Description

A Fire Fighting System Site Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems in buildings and infrastructure projects. They ensure that fire safety systems comply with regulations, standards, and project requirements while providing a safe environment for occupants.

Role & responsibilities

1. System Design and Planning:
• Review architectural and mechanical drawings to design fire fighting systems (e.g., sprinklers, hydrants, fire alarms, gas suppression systems).
• Prepare technical specifications, calculations, and drawings for fire protection systems.
2. Installation Supervision:
• Oversee the installation of fire fighting systems on-site.
• Coordinate with contractors, architects, and other engineers to resolve installation issues.
3. Testing and Commissioning:
• Conduct pressure tests, flow tests, and functional tests for fire fighting systems.
• Ensure all systems are operational and meet performance standards.
• Prepare test reports and documentation for handover.
4. Quality Control and Compliance:
• Inspect materials and equipment to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
• Verify compliance with fire safety regulations and building codes.
5. Training and Documentation:
• Train site staff and clients on the operation and maintenance of fire fighting systems.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, tests, and maintenance activities.
• Prepare as-built drawings and operation manuals.

Preferred candidate profile

• Proficiency in fire fighting system design software (e.g., AutoCAD).
• Knowledge of fire safety codes and standards (e.g.,NFPA, IFC, local regulations).
• Understanding of fire fighting systems.(e.g. Sprinklers, Alarm, Hydrant syetems ).
