Lab Assistant

Role & responsibilities Lab Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a computer science laboratory, including setting up equipment, troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues, assisting students with practical exercises, ensuring lab safety, and maintaining inventory of supplies, all while reporting to a faculty member or lab coordinator; essentially providing technical support and facilitating a smooth learning environment for students in the computer science lab. Key responsibilities may include:

• Lab Setup and Maintenance:
• Opening and closing the lab, ensuring proper power cycles and system startup.
• Checking and maintaining the functionality of computers, peripherals (printers, scanners), and network connections.
• Performing basic hardware troubleshooting and repairs (e.g., replacing cables, cleaning components).
• Installing and updating software applications as needed.
• Regularly backing up lab data and maintaining system configurations.
• Student Support:
• Assisting students with practical exercises and demonstrations during lab sessions.
• Answering basic questions about computer hardware, software, and programming concepts.
• Providing guidance on troubleshooting common software issues.
• Monitoring student activity in the lab to ensure proper usage and safety guidelines are followed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong understanding of computer hardware and software
• Familiarity with common operating systems (Windows, Linux)
• Basic networking knowledge
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students and faculty
