Principal Database Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain the PercipioreportingPostgres SQL databases, ensuring their performance, availability, and security. As a technical contributor in a team environment, youll work daily with your colleagues to extend and improve the data layer of the Percipio e-learning application.

Design and implement ETL/ELT (Extract, Transform, Load) operations to retrieve and integrate data from various sources.Handle tasks related to data motion, managing the transfer of data between storage types, formats, or systems.

Collaborate with other teams to ensure data consistency and integrity, resolving any issues that may arise.

Participate in the planning and strategy of the data architecture and database systems.

Develop and maintain data models for product development and ensure the model structures support the business processes.

Ensure the security of data, especially PII and business confidential information.

Utilize analytical and problem solving skills to improve database performance, data latency and resource usage efficiency (storage, compute, I/O).

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

Stay informed with the latest technologies and advancements in the industry. Promote modernization and continuous improvement of the data architecture to improve the reliability and efficiency of the Percipio reporting systems.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Proven experience in a similar role, with strong knowledge of database systems and data analytics.

10+ years experience with SQL query construction for functions, procedures, triggers. Skills must include testing, debugging, and performance tuning. 2+ years of the experience needs to be with Postgres.

Extensive experience designing data models to support application analytics, including table partitioning strategies.

Strong understanding of ETL/ELT operations and experience with data motion.

Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex database issues.

Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical team members.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team and mentor less experienced colleagues.

Desirable Experience:

Experience in the design and developmentof a data mesh architecture, promoting the decentralization of data ownership and management.

Experience in the design and construction ofa reporting data fabric system thatprovides data accessibility and a unified, consistent data layer.

Experience with the NodeJS technology and development ecosystem.

Experience with the bash family of shells for scripting.
