Job Description

Position Title: Peer Review Supervisor
Department: Global Services Peer Review
Location: Dehradun


Position Overview:
As a Peer Review Supervisor, you will play a key role in managing the peer review process for SAGE journals, ensuring efficient communication and workflow management between internal teams and external stakeholders. You will oversee a team of 5-7 members, including Senior/Peer Review Associates, Senior Project Editors, and Editorial Assistants, ensuring timely, high-quality manuscript review and resolution of any issues that arise. Your role will include troubleshooting, staff supervision, and continuous process improvement to enhance the overall peer review experience.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Supervision:
    • Lead and manage a team of 5-7 Senior/Peer Review Associates, Senior Project Editors, and Editorial Assistants.
    • Assign workloads and ensure effective work allocation, maintaining a productive and balanced environment.
    • Provide guidance, motivation, and constructive feedback to team members to ensure they meet their peer review responsibilities.

  • Peer Review Process Management:
    • Oversee the peer review process for multiple SAGE journals, ensuring seamless management from manuscript submission to export to SAGE Production using SAGE Track and STS.
    • Collaborate with SAGE US and UK offices (e.g., editorial, marketing, and production teams) to ensure smooth operation of peer review workflows.
    • Hold regular video/audio conferences with international teams after standard office hours as needed.
    • Ensure high-quality communication with journal editors, associate editors, authors, and reviewers.

  • Process Improvement & Troubleshooting:
    • Troubleshoot peer review issues with professionalism and calmness, resolving problems as they arise.
    • Evaluate and improve current processes to streamline the peer review cycle, reducing turnaround time for journal submissions.
    • Identify areas for improvement, develop action plans, and implement strategic solutions to enhance peer review efficiency.
    • Collaborate with the Manager Peer Review to report workflow irregularities or challenges, particularly with newly transitioned journals.
    • Maintain and update comprehensive process and training documentation for team reference.

  • Reporting & Documentation:
    • Regularly report to the Manager Peer Review on the team's progress and any challenges via prescribed reporting formats (daily/weekly).
    • Ensure process and training documents are current and stored in accessible locations on the server.
    • Regularly assess and recommend improvements to current reports to avoid redundancy and ensure effective tracking of team and journal performance.

  • Team Development & Relationship Management:
    • Foster positive and collaborative relationships with all team members and stakeholders.
    • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities to ensure that team members grow and succeed in their roles.
    • Address any performance or resource issues in a timely manner, escalating matters to Reporting Managers as needed.

Skills, Qualifications, & Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelors degree or equivalent in business, publishing, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 2-3 years in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably within publishing or peer review management.
    • Proven ability to manage and motivate a team effectively, ensuring high performance and successful project outcomes.
    • Prior experience in managing peer review processes within the publishing industry is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization.
    • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
    • Ability to troubleshoot issues calmly and professionally, and provide effective solutions.

Working Conditions:

  • You may be required to work outside standard office hours for coordination with international teams.
  • This position will be based in Dehradun, with occasional travel .
