Tooling Fixture Technician - Off Role position

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Tooling Fixture Technician to join our Tooling team. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the proper setup, maintenance, and optimization of tooling and fixtures used in CNC machining processes. This role involves working directly on the shop floor, collaborating with machinists and engineers to maintain high-quality production standards while minimizing downtime.

The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with Fixture setups, and fixture assembly. They will be responsible for fabricating, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing/reworking fixtures and tooling to support efficient and accurate machining operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Tooling and Fixture Setup:

• Set up, assemble, install and readiness tooling and fixtures on CNC machines according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
• Ensure tooling and fixtures are properly aligned, calibrated, and securely installed to maintain accurate machining operations.
• Make adjustments to tooling and fixtures to meet production requirements and optimize machining efficiency.

2. Tooling Maintenance and Inspection:

• Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs/rework on tooling and fixtures to ensure they meet the required standards of quality, precision, and safety.
• Regularly check tooling for wear, damage, or improper performance, and replace or repair as needed to prevent machine downtime and quality issues.
• Maintain an organized inventory of tooling and fixtures, ensuring proper storage and handling to prevent damage.

3. Collaboration and Support:

• Work closely with CNC shop floor team, engineers, and production teams to ensure smooth operations and the timely delivery of parts.
• Provide technical support to machinists for troubleshooting tooling and fixture-related issues during the machining process.
• Offer suggestions and solutions for improving the setup or performance of tools and fixtures, helping to reduce cycle times and improve part quality.

4. Continuous Improvement:

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize tooling and fixture performance, machining efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Recommend modifications or improvements to tooling, fixtures, or setup processes to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
• Stay up to date with the latest trends in tooling technology and machining techniques.

5. Safety and Compliance:

• Ensure all tooling and fixtures are in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment by following company safety procedures and best practices.
• Report any safety hazards, incidents, or concerns to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner.

6. Documentation and Reporting:

• Keep accurate records of tooling and fixture maintenance, repairs, and usage to ensure traceability and adherence to quality standards.
• Document all tooling modifications, repairs, and adjustments to ensure proper tracking and process control.
• Assist with the creation of new tooling setup instructions and job-related documentation when necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or training in CNC machining, toolmaking, or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a Tooling Fixture Technician, CNC machinist, or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
• In-depth knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling systems, fixture setups, and material properties.
• Operating CNC machines is an advantage
• Previous experience in fixture design or modification is an advantage

• Skills & Abilities:

• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Experience with various types of CNC machines, including milling, turning, and grinding machines.
• Familiarity with tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to perform precision machining operations with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication skills to collaborate with other team members and departments.

• Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, sit, walk, and perform detailed tasks for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with noise, and other typical shop floor conditions.
