The Role Overview:

The Girls' Housemistress (HsMs) will be responsible for the pastoral care, management, and administrative oversight of the girls' house. This includes promoting the welfare, development, and happiness of pupils while fostering a positive, supportive environment. HsMs will also play an active role in admissions, marketing, and contribute to the academic and co-curricular life of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

Pastoral Care:

• Assume major pastoral responsibility for the overall welfare, academic progress, and personal development of the pupils in the house.
• Oversee the students' integration into house and school life, supporting their preparation for life beyond school.
• Provide a compassionate and confidential approach to managing sensitive and complex issues that may arise with pupils.
• Promote and nurture good standards of behaviour, discipline, and wellbeing within the house.
• Foster strong communication with the parents and guardians of pupils, maintaining regular contact and offering support.
• Ensure safeguarding practices are upheld according to school policies and relevant legislation, prioritizing pupil safety at all times.

Management and Administration:

• Provide dynamic leadership for all staff associated with the house, including residential tutors, matrons, and domestic staff.
• Keep detailed records on the welfare, progress, and academic development of each pupil.
• Manage house finances, maintaining accurate records of house expenditure and ensuring proper budgeting.
• Attend Housemistress meetings and liaise with other HsMs and the Leadership Team to ensure consistency across practices.
• Lead and train Pupil House Leaders, providing guidance and support in their roles.
• Manage the House Matron in collaboration with the Deputy Head (Pastoral), ensuring proper training and pastoral development.
• Oversee the maintenance, decoration, and improvements of the house, working with the Matron and Director of Operations.

Admissions and Marketing:

• Actively promote Shrewsbury International School India by participating in marketing efforts.
• Meet prospective parents and pupils to discuss the school's vision and offerings.
• Play a role in Open Days, Receptions, Open House Mornings, and other school events.

Teaching and Learning:

• Contribute to the academic and wider life of the school by teaching a reduced timetable to accommodate the demands of the Housemistress role.
• Provide well-planned, stimulating lessons and use subject knowledge to challenge and inspire students.
• Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development of the curriculum and student learning.

Safeguarding & Child Protection:

• Comply with the school's Safeguarding & Child Protection policies and procedures.
• Undergo Safeguarding & Child Protection training as directed by the school.
