Legal Manager

Job Title: Senior Legal Manager

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Key Responsibilities:

• Legal & Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure full compliance with local, national, and international regulations governing the petrochemical, chemical, and fertilizer industries.
• Stay updated with regulatory changes in environmental laws, hazardous material handling, safety standards, and international trade regulations.
• Develop and implement legal strategies to mitigate operational risks and ensure adherence to government policies.
• Handle legal aspects of safety, emissions, and environmental impact assessments.
• Contract Management & Negotiations:
• Draft, review, and negotiate EPC contracts, vendor agreements, technology licensing contracts, supply chain agreements, and joint ventures.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations in all legal agreements related to procurement, sales, and technology transfer.
• Handle dispute resolution arising from contracts and commercial transactions.
• Litigation & Dispute Resolution:
• Oversee litigation matters, including regulatory disputes, vendor conflicts, and labor law cases.
• Represent the company in negotiations, arbitrations, and legal proceedings.
• Manage relationships with external legal counsels, regulatory bodies, and auditors.
• Corporate Governance & Risk Management:
• Implement robust corporate governance policies to ensure legal and ethical business practices.
• Provide legal advisory on mergers, acquisitions, and business expansions.
• Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify and address potential legal vulnerabilities.
• Environmental & Safety Compliance:
• Ensure legal compliance with HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) regulations applicable to industrial manufacturing and processing plants.
• Handle legal matters related to hazardous chemical handling, waste disposal regulations, and industrial safety laws.
• Intellectual Property & Licensing:
• Protect the companys patents, trademarks, and trade secrets related to petrochemical, chemical, and fertilizer products and technologies.
• Ensure compliance with intellectual property laws in licensing agreements and R&D collaborations.
• Stakeholder & Government Relations:
• Act as the legal point of contact for government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
• Represent the company in legal discussions, policy-making forums, and corporate negotiations.

Qualification & Experience:

• Education: LLB / LLM (Corporate Law, Energy Law, or Industrial Law preferred).
• Experience: 10-20+ years in legal roles within Petrochemical, Chemical, Fertilizer, Oil & Gas or Manufacturing industries.
• Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of industrial compliance, contracts, safety laws, and risk management.
• Certifications: Additional certifications in Energy Law, Industrial Safety Laws, or Corporate Governance are a plus.
