Financial Counsellor

Role & responsibilities

• Patient Consultation: Meet with patients to discuss their financial situation and help them understand the costs associated with eye care treatments, including consultations, surgeries, diagnostics, and follow-ups.
• Insurance Coordination: Assist patients in understanding their insurance coverage, including verification of benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
• Financial Planning: Work with patients to create payment plans for services rendered, ensuring that they are aware of their financial obligations and the hospitals available financing options.
• Billing Support: Resolve billing discrepancies and ensure that patient accounts are accurate. Answer questions regarding charges, payment options, and payment history.
• Charity and Government Assistance: Assist eligible patients in applying for government assistance, charity care programs, or other financial aid that may help reduce the cost of their medical care.
• Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate records of financial counseling sessions, ensuring that patient confidentiality and hospital policies are upheld. Stay updated on relevant healthcare regulations and insurance policies.
• Collaboration with Medical Staff: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure financial concerns are addressed promptly, and that all necessary authorizations or approvals are in place.
• Patient Education: Provide clear explanations of billing statements, cost estimates, and potential financial assistance, ensuring that patients feel informed and supported throughout their treatment journey.

Preferred candidate profile :

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, healthcare administration, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in a financial counseling or healthcare billing role, preferably in a hospital or medical environment.
• Strong understanding of insurance claims, coding, and healthcare billing processes.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information to patients.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Empathy and a patient-focused approach to financial counseling.
