Magnetic Simulation Engineer

Job Role and Responsibilities :

As a Electrical Design Engineer within the Center of Excellence (COE) team at Luminous Power Technologies, youll play a crucial role in the complete product development process for the FutureX R&D Team.

Here are your key responsibilities:

• Transformer Design:
• Fundamental knowledge of the transformer design and calculation step.
• Design electrical parameters of transformers using industry-standard design.
• Design a variety of transformers, including single-phase, three-phase, and planar transformers for both high and low-frequency applications.
• Stay informed about industry trends and advancements of transformer design evaluation.
• Inductor Design:
• Design Inductor for High and low frequency inverter application.
• Inductor design for different power electronics topologies Buck, Boost, Flyback etc.
• Know the fundamental of the Inductor construction details in terms of core material, winding, etc.
• Electro-magnetic Simulation Analysis:
• Apply analytical and numerical methods to perform Magnetics FAE analysis of transformer and inductors used in Low & High Frequency, Solar Non-Solar and Low & High kVA rating domestic and industrial application inverters.
• Hands on PEmag tool to prepare transformer primary setup for different core type, winding types, insulation and bobbin type for transformer and inductors,
• Perform different type of Magnetics simulation like Eddy Current, Transient etc. using Ansys Maxwell 2D simulation tool and analyse the simulation results to evaluate the transformer/inductor as per certification regulation compliance and standards.
• RCA analysis for field trial failure:
• Perform RCA for field trial failure of transformer, humming sound, overheating kind issue using magnetics simulation and suggest a solution to prevent that failure.
• Documentation and Support:
• Create and maintain accurate documentation, including technical design specifications, Simulation analysis reports, and Practical test data.
• Offer technical guidance and support to junior engineers when needed.
• Supplier and Testing laboratories Collaboration:
• Visit and collaborate with suppliers related to material properties, and testing laboratories for different material level testing, vibration, shock or other static or dynamic loading testing and test procedure.
• Continuous Learning:
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to structural solutions and simulation models.
• Cost and DOE Simulation for Optimization:
• Design of Experiments (DOE) helps optimize parameters (e.g., core stack length, metal plate thickness, size, cost optimization).
• Simulate different scenarios to minimize costs while maintaining the transformer/inductor performance.

2. Experience:

1. Minimum 3 years of experience in Magnetics Simulation using Ansys Maxwell software or related software, specifically different types of transformer/inductor analysis.

2. 3 Years of experience of PEmag tool to prepare the transformer preliminary setup for Ansys Maxwell 2D simulation.

3. Technical Knowledge:

1. Proficiency in Transformer/Inductor design, core selection and integration with Inverter PCB.

2. Familiarity with transformer and inductor design standards.

3. Experience using simulation tools such as Ansys Maxwell, Ansys PEmag, other extension for planner transformer design.

4. Simulation Workflow:

1. Understanding of industry-standard simulation analysis workflows and testing standards.

2. Ability to apply transformer/inductor design standards effectively.

5. Specific Skills:

1. Proficient in transformer/inductor design calculation fundamentals.

2. Expertise in core selection, winding selection for different type of transformer/inductor by considering cost, assembly, performance, and sizing aspects. fastener selection, weld joint, stiffener design, plastic part design, gasket selection.

3. Hands-on experience in pre and post processing of Magnetics simulation analyses, specifically transformer/inductor architecture, meshing, boundary conditions, graph and contour and animation visualization and animation creation.

4. Knowledge of proper core, insulation, winding wire/foil/strip material proper selection to meet the regulation standards, and efficiently power conversion requirements while considering cost-effectiveness and environmental impact.

6. Optimization and Communication:

1. Analytical skills to optimize transformer design solutions by selecting appropriate material of sheet metal, stack up length, winding wire gauge size and material.

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

3. Strong interpersonal skills for negotiation and conflict resolution.

4. Organizational skills and attention to detail.

1. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address mechanical/structural challenges effectively.
