Job Summary

We rely on our Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to provide users with a robust feature set, high availability, and exceptional performance. As we expand our customer deployments, we are seeking an experienced Lead SRE to deliver real-time insights from large-scale data. We need someone who can lead the team with innovative ideas and a unique perspective, and who enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop real-world solutions and positive user experiences.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • System Reliability and Availability: Ensure systems are reliable and available by monitoring health, detecting issues, and implementing strategies to address them.
  • Incident Management: Lead incident response, minimize downtime, and conduct post-incident analysis to prevent future occurrences.
  • Automation and Tooling: Develop and maintain internal tools to automate processes, manage CI/CD pipelines, and enhance system efficiency.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify potential risks, assess their impact, and implement measures to mitigate them.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development, QA, and security teams to ensure all aspects of the system are reliable and secure.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously improve systems by learning from incidents, receiving feedback, and suggesting new solutions.
  • Capacity Planning: Ensure systems can handle future growth through effective capacity planning and performance tuning.
  • Service Level Objectives (SLOs): Set and maintain SLOs to ensure systems meet performance and reliability standards.
  • Complex Problem Resolution: Resolve complex problems spanning multiple applications to drive improvements across portfolios; lead projects with significant business implications and participate in planning, prioritization, and estimates.
  • Development Leadership: Lead the development of integrated business and/or enterprise applications to ensure solutions are resilient, scalable, maintainable, and meet architectural standards.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive operational excellence through disaster recovery and capacity planning, performance, regression and chaos testing, observability alerts and dashboards, and reliability processes and recovery runbooks.
  • Problem Deconstruction: Break down complex problems into simple solutions that can evolve over time.
  • Education and Mentorship: Educate others on engineering standards and best practices, including code quality analysis, test coverage, security principles (authentication and authorization protocols), and Agile processes.
  • Technology Exploration: Continuously explore and recommend new enterprise software components and technologies.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously work to simplify solutions, optimize processes, remove bottlenecks, and resolve escalated issues.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Programming and Scripting: Proficiency in languages like Python, Go, or Java to automate tasks and develop tools.
  • System Administration: Deep understanding of Linux/Unix systems, including shell scripting and system internals.
  • JavaScript Libraries: Flexible and skilled in understanding JavaScript libraries like NextJS, ReactJS.
  • Cloud Computing: Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and experience with cloud-native applications and Carbon platforms.
  • Database Experience: Experience with NoSQL/SQL databases including Oracle, Postgres, Mongo, Cassandra, ElasticDB.
  • Messaging Services: Experience with different messaging services like Kafka, Cloud, Redis.
  • Monitoring and Observability: Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack for system health and performance tracking.
  • Incident Management: Skills in managing and responding to incidents, including root cause analysis and post-mortem processes.
  • Networking: Understanding of networking concepts and protocols to troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues.
  • Security: Basic knowledge of security practices to ensure systems are secure and compliant.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical issues clearly.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex systems and solve problems efficiently.
  • Experience: 7 years of experience in software development or a related field, 6 years of experience in software engineering competencies (frontend technologies, middleware, database technologies, DevOps), and 6 years of experience working on projects involving iterative agile development.
  • Education: Bachelors degree in computer science, computer information systems (CIS), or a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree: Masters degree in computer science, CIS, or a related field.
  • Technical Documentation: 6 years of experience writing technical documentation in a software environment, developing and implementing business systems within an organization, and working with source code control systems.
  • ITIL Framework: 6 years of experience working with an IT Infrastructure Library framework, defect or incident tracking software, web services, and application and integration middleware.
  • Systems Analysis: 6 years of experience in systems analysis, including defining technical requirements and performing high-level design for complex solutions.
  • Technology Experience: 6 years of experience working with three or more of the following: continuous integration/continuous deployment tools, frontend technologies (UI/UX), middleware, database technologies, DevOps.
  • Leadership: 4 years of experience leading teams, with or without direct reports.
