Automation Tester - Cypress/ Playwright

Role Overview

LKQ Europe is building on an exciting and challenging growth path in its digital development. Being part of LKQ Corporation, the company is number one in the automotive aftermarket industry. The company is transitioning into harmonization of different subsidiaries into ONE LKQ organization. This requires alignment and standardisation. IT is organised globally and regionally. Globally IT is organised into functional and regional teams split within North America and Europe. The European functional teams are defined as: IT Service Desk, IT Infrastructure Management, IT security (which align with the global IT strategic planning & governance function), business relationship management, analytics & business intelligence, enterprise application management, customer application management and IT innovation and service center (ISC) (which report to the European director of IT). The customer application management team is directed by the European Director of Customer Application Management and is responsible for the customer facing applications.

In order to further professionalize our digital position, we are currently looking for a Automation Tester. In this role, you will be a leader for defining and executing the test strategy with the various development teams and products that we implement and support. You will also lead the effort to consolidate the different ways the teams are currently using to perform automated tests. You will additionally be coaching and leading less experienced testers in a department and setup that is growing continuously.

Key Responsibilities

Automation strategy management

• Consolidating existing test automation practices of the teams and actively being involved in improving them with best practices. Supporting and organising the less experienced testers in their activities within the teams.
• Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using the Playwright, Cypress framework
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our test automation infrastructure and processes

Coaching testers and developers on testing

• Hosting regular follow ups and collaboration activities with testers and developers for knowledge sharing and improvement exercises on testing automation.

Actively perform and lead testing

• We have consolidated into one department different teams and systems. We have approximately 4 main development teams and a few more smaller ones that are actively working on languages such as Java, C#, Go. Some are already advanced on the automation setup while others might be lagging. You must be ok to perform testing if needed although you should always keep at least 50% of your time allocate on the leading and consolidating activities.

Leadership and people management

• Managing a small team of testers, initially two, and ensuring their motivation and building on their professional expertise so they experience personal and professional growth opportunities must be part of your activities. You will be the example leader other testers will look for guidance and you should be able to provide feedback and reviews on their progress and productivity.

Key Stakeholders

• Customer Applications three Heads of Engineering, Product and Digital Excellence as well as the Director of the department
• Product Owners, Developers, Testers, Business analysts etc.
• DevOps and Architects from global and local areas of LKQ Europe

Key and Desired Skills

• Agile and or automation related certifications.
• Working experience on transactional/E-commerce/Web projects, from the inception to deployment, and well versed in the full Software Testing Lifecycle.
• Familiar with complex front and backend systems
• Comfortable on providing test strategies which will focus on Automation testing and might include manual testing.
• Proven experience as an automation tester with expertise in Playwright, Cypress
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript programming languages.
• Team player, supportive and thriving in iterative/agile environment that priorities shift and change is always to be expected.
• Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• Proven experience as an automation tester in multichannel customer applications of 3-5 years.
• Experienced in scaled Agile in an international corporate matrix structure.
• Strong experience in unit tests, API testing, E2E testing and the relevant toolsets
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Able to identify critical issues and propose solutions.
