Job Description: Sr. Technical Manager- Database Administration and Application Admin

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator responsible for overseeing and managing the organizations database infrastructure, ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of data. This role involves leading a team of database administrators (DBAs), collaborating with development and operations teams, and driving database solutions that align with the company's business needs. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in database systems, strong leadership skills, and strategic vision for optimizing database performance, scalability, and security.

Key Responsibilities:

• Database Administration:
• Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Oracle database systems along with MS Sql and MySql
• Ensure database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures are in place and regularly tested.
• Monitor and optimize the performance, availability, and scalability of database systems.
• Implement and maintain data security policies, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations
• Have extensive experience in using tools and utilities to analyze and resolve database performance issues
• Have extensive experience in Oracle RAC, Dataguard and other high availability solutions
• Perform capacity planning and scalability
• Have extensive experience in complex migration of database instances
• Implement and maintain Database backup strategies
• Strategic Planning & Execution:
• Define and implement the database strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and emerging technology trends.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and application development teams to design and optimize databases.
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in database technologies and integrate innovative solutions into the company's infrastructure.
• Leadership & Management:
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of database administrators to ensure efficient and effective database operations.
• Set performance objectives and provide regular feedback and development opportunities for the team.
• Collaborate with senior management to align database strategies with business goals.
• Provide guidance on database architecture and best practices to internal teams.
• Project Management:
• Lead and manage database-related projects, from planning through execution, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver database-related support for application development and system upgrades.
• Oversee the migration of legacy databases to modern platforms when necessary.
• Database Security & Compliance:
• Ensure the integrity and security of databases by enforcing access controls, encryption, and auditing.
• Implement and oversee data governance and compliance initiatives to meet regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with IT security teams to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks to database systems.
• Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:
• Act as the escalation point for complex database issues, providing expertise to resolve system outages or performance bottlenecks.
• Ensure root cause analysis and post-mortem reports are conducted after major incidents.
• Vendor & Stakeholder Management:
• Manage relationships with database vendors, ensuring optimal licensing, support, and performance.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, providing regular updates on database performance and projects.

Key Skills and Attributes:

• Education:
  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
• Experience:
• 8-10 years of experience in database administration, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role.
• Expertise in managing databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL
• Strong knowledge of cloud databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
• Proven experience in database performance tuning, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) practices.
• Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD processes, including automation tools like Ansible, Jenkins, or Terraform.
• Technical Skills:
• Advanced knowledge of database management tools and monitoring systems.
• Proficiency in database performance tuning, replication, clustering, and scaling solutions.
• Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Shell, SQL scripting).
• Hands-on experience with database migrations, upgrades, and patching.
• Solid understanding of database security practices, including encryption and authentication.

• Proven leadership and people management experience, including mentoring and guiding technical teams.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple complex projects simultaneously.
