Job Summary:
The Statistician for Underwriting in an insurance company is responsible for analyzing data to assess risk and determine appropriate premiums. This role involves working closely with underwriters to provide statistical insights that support decision-making processes and ensure the financial stability of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data related to insurance claims, policyholder behavior, and market trends to identify patterns and assess risk.
Risk Assessment: Develop statistical models to evaluate the likelihood of claims and determine appropriate premiums.
Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and visualizations to communicate findings to underwriters and other stakeholders.
Collaboration: Work with underwriters to interpret statistical data and apply it to underwriting decisions.
Model Development: Create and maintain predictive models to forecast future claims and losses.
Compliance: Ensure all statistical analyses comply with regulatory requirements and company policies.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes through data-driven insights.
Training: Provide training and support to underwriters on the use of statistical tools and techniques.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelordegree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., ASA, FSA) are a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a statistical or analytical role, preferably within the insurance industry.
Skills:
Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Knowledge of insurance products and underwriting processes.
