Job Description / Responsibilities:

Job Purpose:

The Crewing Manager is responsible for overseeing the recruitment, deployment, and welfare of seafarers. This includes ensuring that vessels are adequately manned with qualified, certified crew members, complying with international maritime regulations, and handling crew-related operational and administrative tasks. The role ensures smooth crew management, optimizes staffing levels, and addresses crew welfare and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Crew Planning and Deployment: Ensure vessels are manned with competent, qualified, and certified crew members. Oversee crew planning, ensuring minimal disruption to vessel operations. Manage crew rotations, leave schedules, and contracts to maintain adequate staffing levels. Coordinate crew travel logistics, including visas, flight bookings, and accommodations.
2. Recruitment and Selection: Identify and recruit qualified seafarers for various ranks according to vessel requirements. Conduct interviews and assessments to ensure crew members meet company standards and certifications. Maintain an updated database of available seafarers and their qualifications.
3. Compliance and Certification: Ensure all crew members comply with international, national, and flag state regulations, such as STCW, MLC, and ISM Code. Keep crew certifications and documentation up-to-date and in compliance with regulatory requirements. Liaise with regulatory authorities, flag states, and port state control to ensure smooth inspections.
4. Training and Development: Oversee crew training and development, ensuring that necessary certifications and courses are completed. Implement company policies for onboard training and career development programs. Conduct performance appraisals for crew members and address any skill gaps or training needs.
5. Budgeting and Cost Management: Manage the crewing budget, including crew wages, training expenses, travel, and other related costs. Negotiate contracts and terms with manning agencies, training institutions, and third-party service providers.
6. Crew Welfare: Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all crew members. Address crew-related issues, including grievances, welfare concerns, and repatriation. Ensure compliance with company policies related to crew welfare, such as mental health support and living conditions on board.
7. Coordination and Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact between the office and the crew, providing regular updates and communication. Collaborate with vessel superintendents, technical managers, and operations teams to ensure seamless vessel operations. Provide reports to senior management on crew matters, including staffing levels, training, and performance.
8. Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of crew movements, certifications, medical reports, and personal files. Prepare and present reports on crew status, training, compliance, and other related metrics to senior management.

Desired Candidate Profile:

• Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in any field. Strong understanding of maritime regulations such as STCW, MLC, and ISM Codes.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in crewing operations, preferably in the shipping industry. Proven experience in recruiting, assigning, and scheduling crew members for various types of vessels (e.g., container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, etc.). Experience in crew change management and managing crew rotations. Knowledge of crew welfare management, including handling issues related to accommodation, repatriation, and addressing grievances.
• Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Proficiency in crewing management software and other related systems. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure. Cultural awareness and sensitivity in dealing with international crew members.
