Job Description

Job Overview:

The Merchandiser/ Production Merchandiser for an Export House and Retail Firm is responsible for managing the entire process of product development, production, and shipment for international clients. This role focuses on ensuring that all export orders are processed smoothly, adhering to quality, specifications, delivery timelines, and export documentation. The position requires strong coordination with internal teams (sales, design, production) and external stakeholders (suppliers, manufacturers, freight forwarders) to ensure a seamless supply chain from order receipt to final export.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Order Management:
    • Coordinate the processing of orders from international clients, ensuring timely and accurate order execution.
    • Communicate with clients regarding order updates, deliveries, and any concerns related to the product or shipment.
    • Oversee the creation of production schedules and ensure they meet export deadlines.
  • Product Development & Sourcing:
    • Work with the design and production teams to ensure product designs are feasible for export and meet the client's specifications and international standards.
    • Source raw materials and components from domestic and international suppliers, negotiating the best prices and delivery terms.
    • Ensure samples are prepared, reviewed, and approved by clients before final production begins.
  • Production Coordination:
    • Liaise with factories and production units to ensure manufacturing processes align with client requirements, timelines, and quality standards.
    • Monitor production timelines and provide regular updates to both internal teams and clients.
    • Address any production issues such as delays, quality concerns, or design changes, and ensure they are resolved promptly.
  • Quality Control & Compliance:
    • Monitor and ensure the products meet international quality standards and the specific requirements set by the client.
    • Coordinate with the quality control team to conduct inspections and audits at various stages of production.
    • Ensure compliance with export regulations and guidelines, including certification, labelling, and packaging requirements.
  • Documentation & Export Process:
    • Prepare and maintain export documentation, such as invoices, packing lists, shipping instructions, certificates of origin, and bills of lading.
    • Coordinate with logistics and freight forwarders to ensure timely shipping and delivery of goods.
    • Monitor shipments and handle any issues related to customs clearance or transit delays.
  • Client Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with international clients, providing excellent customer service and timely responses to inquiries.
    • Ensure client feedback is taken into account for future orders, helping improve product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Cost Management:
    • Manage costs effectively and ensure the production stays within budget, including material costs, labour, and shipping.
    • Negotiate with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain the best possible pricing without compromising on quality.
  • Reporting & Communication:
    • Maintain accurate records of all orders, samples, production schedules, shipments, and payments.
    • Prepare regular status reports for management regarding the progress of orders, shipments, and any issues.
    • Communicate effectively with both internal teams (design, production, sales) and external parties (clients, suppliers, logistics partners).

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising, International Business, Textile Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in merchandising, preferably in an export house, apparel, or textile industry.
    • In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, export procedures, and global shipping practices.
  • Skills:
    • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP systems.
    • Knowledge of export documentation, customs regulations, and shipping processes.
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
    • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
